Santiam Lake (Panoramic)
Santiam Lake is a lake in the U.S. state of Oregon, west of Three Fingered Jack in the Cascade Range. It is headwaters for the North Santiam River and drains a portion of the southwestern Mount Jefferson Wilderness. The lake is stocked bi-annually with Brook and Rainbow trout. It can be accessed from various trails in the Jefferson Wilderness, including Santiam Lake Trail #3491. It is located about 6.5 miles northwest of Santiam Junction, Oregon. Cascade Range
The Cascade Range or Cascades is a major mountain range of western North America, extending from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California. It includes both non-volcanic mountains, such as the North Cascades, and the notable volcanoes known as the High Cascades. The small part of the range in British Columbia is referred to as the Canadian Cascades or, locally, as the Cascade Mountains. The latter term is also sometimes used by Washington residents to refer to the Washington section of the Cascades in addition to North Cascades, the more usual U.S. term, as in North Cascades National Park. The brook trout (''Salvelinus fontinalis'') is a species of freshwater fish in the char genus ''Salvelinus'' of the salmon family Salmonidae. It is native to Eastern North America in the United States and Canada, but has been introduced elsewhere in North America, as well as to Iceland, Europe, and Asia. Santiam Junction, Oregon
Santiam Junction is a highway junction and unincorporated community in Linn County, Oregon, United States, at the intersection of U.S. Route 20/Oregon Route 126 and Oregon Route 22. According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, the elevation is 3,750 feet (1,143 m). An automated weather station is located here, as well as highway maintenance facilities. The Santiam Junction State Airport is an emergency/recreational landing strip that is closed from the first snowfall until spring. The airport grounds permit fly-in camping. The Mount Jefferson Wilderness is a wilderness area located on and around Mount Jefferson in the central Cascade Range of Oregon in the United States. Three Fingered Jack is a summit of a shield volcano of the Cascade Range in the U.S. state of Oregon.
