Santa Fe (film)
''Santa Fe'' is a 1951 American Western film directed by Irving Pichel and starring Randolph Scott. The film is based on the novel ''Santa Fe'' by James Vance Marshall. Plot The film opens in northwest Missouri (near " Mound City, Missouri") in 1867. In the years following the Civil War, Britt Canfield, one of four ex-Confederate brothers, heads west for a new life. Britt accepts a job with the Santa Fe Railway, whilst his three brothers find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Britt is eventually obliged to bring his brothers to justice, but the real man behind their criminal activities is gambling boss Cole Sanders. Irving Pichel
Irving Pichel (June 24, 1891 – July 13, 1954) was an American actor and film director, who won acclaim both as an actor and director in his Hollywood career. Career Pichel was born to a American Jews, Jewish family in Pittsburgh. He attended Pittsburgh Central High School with George S. Kaufman. The two collaborated on a play, ''The Failure''. Pichel graduated from Harvard University in 1914 and went immediately into the theater. He had a feature role from January through May 1915 in the Boston production of ''Common Clay (play), Common Clay'', appearing with Alfred Lunt and Mary Young (actress), Mary Young. Pichel's first work in musical theatre was as a technical director for the theater of the San Francisco Bohemian Club; he also helped with the annual summer pageant, held at the elite Bohemian Grove, in which up to 300 of its wealthy, influential members from finance and government participate. John Archer (actor)
John Archer (born Ralph Bowman; May 8, 1915 – December 3, 1999) was an American actor. Early life Archer was born Ralph Bowman in Osceola, Nebraska, the son of Eunice Melba (née Crawford) and Joseph Emmett Bowman. Archer moved to California at the age of five. He attended Hollywood High School and the University of Southern California, where he studied cinematography, expecting to work behind the camera. Allene Roberts
Emma Allene Roberts (September 1, 1928 – May 9, 2019) was an American actress. Early years Roberts was born in Fairfield, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Roberts. In 1941, she won the "America's Most Charming Child" contest sponsored by the ''New York Daily Mirror'', receiving $1,000 in cash and a $1,000 contract with Warner Bros. studio. Career Roberts appeared in twelve movies from 1947 to 1954, and on TV in ''Four Star Playhouse'', '' Adventures of Superman'' and '' Dragnet''. Her first big picture was '' The Red House'' (1947) starring Rory Calhoun, Julie London and Edward G. Robinson. That movie was considered by the critics to be the "sleeper hit" of the year. Roberts' other films included ''Knock on Any Door'' (1949), ''Union Station'' (1950),Silver, p. 303. and '' Bomba on Panther Island'' (1949). Olin Howland
Olin Ross Howland (February 10, 1886 – September 20, 1959) was an American film and theatre actor. Life and career Howland was born in Denver, Colorado, to Joby A. Howland, one of the youngest enlisted participants in the Civil War, and Mary C. Bunting. His sister was stage actress Jobyna Howland. From 1909 to 1927, Howland appeared on Broadway in musicals, occasionally performing in silent films. The musicals include '' Leave It to Jane'' (1917), '' Two Little Girls in Blue'' (1921) and ''Wildflower'' (1923). He was in the film '' Janice Meredith'' (1924) with Marion Davies. With the advent of sound films, his theatre background proved an asset, and he concentrated mostly on films thereafter, appearing in nearly two hundred movies between 1918 and 1958. Howland often played eccentric and rural roles in Hollywood. His parts were often small and uncredited, and he never got a leading role. He was a personal favorite of David O.
