Samuel Constant De Rebecque
Samuel (de) Constant, marquis de Rebecque (26 November 1676 – 6 January 1756) was Swiss mercenary in the service of the Dutch States Army. Life Constant de Rebecque was born in Lausanne on 26 November 1676 to David Constant de Rebecque, the principal of the Academy of Lausanne, and Marie Colladon. He belonged to the Constant de Rebecque noble family, which originally came from Rebecques in French Flanders before fleeing to Switzerland during the French Wars of Religion. Constant de Rebecque studied Calvinist theology in Lausanne, Zurich, and Geneva. From 1699, he served as an officer in the army of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands, where he expanded a Swiss regiment. During the War of the Spanish Succession, Constant de Rebecque took part in the Battle of Ekeren, in 1703, and at the Battle of Ramillies in 1706, where he helped to save the life of the Duke of Marlborough. Samuel De Constant Rebecque (1676-1756), Heer Van Hermanches En Villars-Mendraz
Samuel is a figure who, in the narratives of the Hebrew Bible, plays a key role in the transition from the biblical judges to the United Kingdom of Israel under Saul, and again in the monarchy's transition from Saul to David. He is venerated as a prophet in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In addition to his role in the Bible, Samuel is mentioned in Jewish rabbinical literature, in the Christian New Testament, and in the second chapter of the Quran (although the text does not mention him by name). He is also treated in the fifth through seventh books of ''Antiquities of the Jews'', written by the Jewish scholar Josephus in the first century. He is first called "the Seer" in 1 Samuel 9:9. General John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, 1st Prince of Mindelheim, 1st Count of Nellenburg, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, (26 May 1650 – 16 June 1722 O.S.) was a British army officer and statesman. From a gentry family, he served as a page at the court of the House of Stuart under James, Duke of York, through the 1670s and early 1680s, earning military and political advancement through his courage and diplomatic skill. He is known for never having lost a battle. Churchill's role in defeating the Monmouth Rebellion in 1685 helped secure James on the throne, but he was a key player in the military conspiracy that led to James being deposed during the Glorious Revolution. Rewarded by William III with the title Earl of Marlborough, persistent charges of Jacobitism led to his fall from office and temporary imprisonment in the Tower of London. Botanical illustration is the art of depicting the form, color, and details of plant species. They are generally meant to be scientifically descriptive about subjects depicted and are often found printed alongside a botanical description in books, magazines, and other media. David-Louis Constant De Rebecque
David-Louis Constant de Rebecque (17 November 1722 – 25 February 1785) was a Swiss military officer who served in the Dutch States Army and French Royal Army. He is also known for his contact with Voltaire and his correspondence with Isabelle de Charrière. Early life and family Constant d'Hermenches was born in Lausanne into the Constant de Rebecque family. He was the eldest son of Samuel Constant de Rebecque and his wife, Rose Suzanne née de Saussure de Bercher (1698–1782). His father was a mercenary in the Dutch States Army and a veteran of the War of the Spanish Succession. Later he raised a small Swiss regiment in the Dutch States Army. He bought the seignories of Hermenches in 1725 and Villars-Mendraz in 1753. Career Constant d'Hermenches joined the Dutch States Army in 1736, serving as cadet in his father's regiment. Sluis
Sluis (; ; ) is a city and municipality located in the west of Zeelandic Flanders, in the south-western Dutch province of Zeeland. The current incarnation of the municipality has existed since 1 January 2003. The former municipalities of Oostburg and Sluis-Aardenburg merged on that date. The latter of these two municipalities was formed from a merger between the previous municipality named Sluis and the former municipality of Aardenburg in 1995.
