"Sally G" is a song written by Paul and Linda McCartney and performed by Paul McCartney and Wings. It was released as the B-side to the single "Junior's Farm" in October 1974. Writing, recording and release McCartney composed the song during Wings' stay in Nashville, Tennessee after visiting a country music club in Printer's Alley. Like the A-side, it was recorded in Nashville in July 1974 during the same visit. The song has a strong country influence and includes contributions from Nashville session musicians Vassar Clements, Lloyd Green and Johnny Gimble, supporting Wings. In the US, "Sally G" charted separately from "Junior's Farm" on ''Billboard''s country chart and Hot 100, peaking at number 51 and number 39 respectively (number 17 when still listed with "Junior's Farm"). John Paul Gimble (May 30, 1926 – May 9, 2015) was an American country musician associated with Western swing. Gimble was considered one of the most important fiddlers in the genre. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 in the early influences category as a member of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. Gimble was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2018. Biography Gimble was born in Tyler, Texas, United States, and grew up in nearby Bascom. The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music historian David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. Geoffrey Britton (born 1 August 1943) is an English rock drummer known for his work with Wings from May 1974 to January 1975, where he was featured on the '' Venus and Mars'' album. Career Britton was born in Lewisham, South East London. He was a member of the progressive rock band East of Eden which formed in Bristol from June to December 1969 and recorded the album ''Snafu''. Afterward he joined the Wild Angels. After leaving Wings in early 1975 Britton was a member of Manfred Mann's Earth Band from 1978 to 1979, playing on the '' Angel Station'' album. James McCulloch (4 June 1953 – 25 September 1979) was a Scottish musician best known for playing lead guitar and bass as a member of Paul McCartney's band Wings from 1974 to 1977. McCulloch was a member of the Glasgow psychedelic band One in a Million (formerly known as the Jaygars), Thunderclap Newman, and Stone the Crows. McCulloch also made appearances on many albums, including John Entwistle's '' Whistle Rymes'' in 1972, as lead guitarist playing alongside Peter Frampton on "Apron Strings" and "I Feel Better".
