In contemporary Thai politics, ''salim'' (, ) is a Thai language, Thai slang referring to people who are sceptics of democracy and supports the Thai military, military's involvement in politics. Politicist Surachart Bamrungsuk saw ''salim''s as representatives of right wing middle class. The term initially referred to the "Network of Citizen Volunteers Protecting the Land, multicoloured shirts" as a reference to the colourful Thai dessert sarim (dessert), ''sarim'' and was considered by some as a pejorative. Selim (horse)
Selim (1802–1825) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse. He was owned by the Prince of Wales, D. Radcliffe and later Arthur Shakespear. After retiring from racing he became a successful stallion and was British Champion sire in 1814. His progeny included Azor, Medora, Sultan and Turquoise.
