Sale Football Club
The Sale Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Magpies'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in Sale, Victoria and are based at the Sale Oval. The club teams compete in the Gippsland Football Netball League (GFNL). History Founded in 1877, Sale began playing official competitive football in 1889 when they joined the Gippsland Football Association, as a junior side. In 1900, the club entered the senior competition and were premiers for the first time the following year. One of the greatest players produced by the club, Brownlow Medal winner Norman Ware, came to Footscray from Sale in the 1930s. Sale were a foundation member of the Latrobe Valley Football League in 1954. They were the dominant team in the early years of the competition, with four premierships in the first six seasons. The Gippsland League (formerly known as the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball league in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. It is considered the only AFL Victoria major league in Gippsland. Adrian Cox
Adrian Cox (born 8 September 1980) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the AFL. A half back flanker, Cox was a strong rebound player and used his pace to run the ball up the wing. He had a trademark bald head which made him instantly recognisable on the field and made his debut in 1999 after being a member of the pre season premiership side. Norm Ware
Norman Ware (5 March 1911 – 26 August 2003) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A scrupulously fair, clever and unusually pacy ruckman for Footscray, Ware is the only captain-coach to have won the Brownlow Medal, and is likely to remain so indefinitely, as it would be almost impossible for a captain of an AFL team to act as a coach today, and even so, playing coaches are prohibited under salary cap regulations (instituted in 1987) in order to prevent wealthier clubs from circumventing the restrictions of the salary cap and salary floor. Anthony Banik (born 17 January 1973) is a former Australian rules football player who played in the Australian Football League between 1990 and 1994 for the Richmond Football Club. Banik went on to be player-coach for West Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League, then Sale, then led the DWWWW Allies to a Premiership in the Alberton Football Netball League in 2003. Mervyn Neagle (7 March 195823 August 2012) was an Australian rules footballer who represented and in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1970s and 1980s. Early life Neagle grew up in Dimboola, a country town in western Victoria. There he formed a lifelong friendship with future teammate Tim Watson. They played junior football and basketball, and shared a paper round. Football career Essendon Neagle joined , in 1976, preceding Watson who joined the club the following year as a 15-year-old. Ted Fidge (born 7 June 1963) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fidge, recruited from St Peter's, started his VFL career in 1982, playing nine games for the season. A forward, Fidge made another nine appearances in 1983 but did not feature at all in the 1984 season; however, he was a member of the Melbourne Reserves premiership team. He kicked 27 goals for Melbourne in 1985, from 15 games, which saw him finish second in their goalkicking. In 1986, he played eight games and missed an entire season again in 1987. Vic Aanensen (born 16 January 1953) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Port Melbourne in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) during the 1970s and 1980s. Graham Martin Robbins (born 6 May 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond Football Club, Richmond in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL).
