Saiful Bahri
Saiful Bahri (19 September 1924 – 26 December 1976) was a Malaysian-Indonesian composer and songwriter, active in both countries during the 1950s and 1960s. Bahri composed and wrote Melaka Maju Jaya, the Malaccan state anthem, and wrote the lyrics to Duli Yang Maha Mulia, the Selangor state anthem. Personal life Bahri was born in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra, in the then-Dutch East Indies. He was educated at INS Kayutanam, a colonial-era school for the Bumiputera, where he sharpened his musical skills. In 1941, Bahri moved to Jakarta, and became a violinist for the Jakarta Studio Orchestra (OSD). From 1950 to 1960, he served as conductor for the Orchestra. In 1956, he composed the soundtrack to '' Tiga Dara''. For this, he won the Citra Award at the 1960 Indonesian Film Festival for Best Soundtrack. Payakumbuh
Payakumbuh (Indonesian: Kota Payakumbuh, Minangkabau: Payokumbuah, Jawi: ) is the second largest city in West Sumatra province, Indonesia, with a population of 116,825 at the 2010 Census and 139,576 at the 2020 Census. It covers an area of 80.43 km² and is in the Minangkabau Highlands, 120 km by road from the West Sumatran capital city of Padang and 180 km from the Riau capital city of Pekanbaru. Malaysian Composers
Malaysian contemporary music (or "art music", "notated music") is an artistic phenomenon within Malaysia that has its roots in the 1980s with pioneer composers like Valerie Ross. However, little information about that period exists in written sources. The genre gained visibility and momentum only in the new millennium due to the internet phenomenon, and in 2002 in particular, when the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) programmed several works by Malaysian composers, namely Chong Kee Yong's ''Echoed Dream'' (2002), Sunetra Fernando's 'Wayang' (2002) and Tazul Izan Tajuddin's ''Sebuah Tenunan III'' (2003). The Indonesian Film Festival (Indonesian: Festival Film Indonesia, 'FFI') is an annual awards ceremony organised by the Indonesian Film Board and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to celebrate cinematic achievements in the Indonesian film industry.
