Vasilijus Safronovas (born 21 July 1984, in Klaipėda) is a Lithuanian historian. Throughout his writings he explores modern cultural and intellectual history of Lithuania and former region of East Prussia, with particular interest to former Territory of Memel/ Klaipėda (or ''Memelgebiet'' in German). Valentina Ivanovna Safronova (; 1918 – 1 May 1943) was a Soviet partisan and intelligence officer who engaged in reconnaissance and sabotage until she was captured and killed by the Gestapo. On 8 May 1965, over twenty years after her death, she was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Early life Safronova was born in 1918 to a Russian family in the village of Baksheevo, but her family moved to village of Lgovsky shortly after her birth, and in 1921 the village was officially incorporated into the city of Bryansk proper. After completing school she worked as the leader of a pioneer detachment and later as a supervisor in a small savings bank that was later used as hideout by resistance members during German occupation. Natalya Safronova (born 6 February 1979, in Krasnoyarsk), is a volleyball player from Russia. During her time playing with the Russian club Zarechie Odintsovo, she won the "Best Attacker" award at the 2006–07 CEV Cup. On 3 December 2009 she collapsed during training after suffering a stroke. She was in coma for 18 days and only regained her speech a year after the incident took place. She continues to recover from the stroke with her volleyball career likely to be over.
