SSC-Khatumo
SSC-Khaatumo (), officially known as the SSC-Khaatumo State of Somalia (), is a federal member state in northern Somalia, with its capital in Las Anod. It includes parts of the Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions (combined under the acronym "SSC") It is bordered by Puntland to the east, the Somali Region of Ethiopia to the south, Somaliland to the west and Erigavo District to the north. Several months into the Las Anod conflict that erupted in early 2023, SSC-Khatumo forces effectively took over those regions, securing most of their claimed area and establishing a new front line about 170km from Las Anod between the villages of Oog and Guumays in western Sool. Las Anod Conflict (2023–present)
The Las Anod conflict () is an ongoing armed conflict between the Somaliland National Army and the Khatumo State, Khaatumo SSC (Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions) forces of the Dhulbahante clan around Las Anod, the capital of the Sool, Somalia, Sool region. Local tensions escalated in late 2022 following the assassination of civil leaders in Las Anod, culminating in fighting that erupted on 6 February 2023 after Somaliland security forces violently cracked down on civilian protests. Shortly after, the supreme Garad of the Dhulbahante clan, Garad Jama Garad Ali, Jama Garad Ali, announced the intent of the SSC-Khaatumo administration to reunify with the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS). Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (, born 1972), nicknamed Firdhiye, is a Somali politician who serves as the current president of ssc-Khatumo State of Somalia . Biography Firdhiye was born in Taleh in 1972. He received his primary and secondary education at Las Anod. He studied Islamic Studies at Umma University in Kenya. In addition, he holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Nairobi. He lived in Nairobi as assistant manager of Amal company in Nairobi. Since 2009, he has had the idea to make Khatumo independent, which affected his work and he was temporarily laid off from the company, but was reinstated shortly after. Jama Yassin Warsame ( Somali: ''Jaamac yaasiin Warsame'', Arabic: جامع ياسين ورسمي) is a Somali politician and Islamic scholar who has previously served as a community leader. A former university lecturer, he also played a pivotal role in conflict mediation efforts in the sool region. He currently holds the position of Speaker of the Parliament of SSC-Khatumo, also known as Khatumo State. Career Warsame was born in the district of Boocame in the Sool region of northern Somalia. He received his primary and secondary education in Lasanod and obtained a bachelor's degree in Fiqh and Islamic Law from a university in Yemen, followed by a master's degree in public management and conflict resolution. Garad Jama Garad Ali () is the 21st supreme traditional clan Sultan ( Garaad) of the Dhulbahante. He has significant influence in Somalia's current politics, particularly in Ssc- Khatumo. Sool
Sool (, ) is a disputed administrative region (gobol). It borders Togdheer to the west, Sanaag to the north, Ethiopia to the south and Nugal, Bari to the east. Its capital city is Las Anod. The region is disputed by the self-declared Republic of Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo. The region is partially controlled by both polities. Cayn
Cayn or Ayn is an administrative region that Puntland unilaterally declared to be established in the 2000s. However, there is Somaliland between Cayn and Puntland, and they do not directly border each other. Somaliland has legally designated this area as its territory as Buhoodle District. SSC-Khatumo, which declared its secession from Somaliland in 2023, claims the territories of Sanaag, Sool, and Cayn, as its name implies, and effectively controls Buuhoodle. Guumays
Guumays (Guumeys) is a village in the Sool region currently under the control of Khatumo State forces. History Guumays is listed in a book published in England in 1951 under the name Gumeis. After Puntland gained independence in 1998, the Somaliland militia's area of operations extended to Guumays and the Puntland militia's area of operations extended to Las Anod. In July 2005, the Somaliland National Electoral Commission inspected the situation in Yagori District and reported that elections could be held in Guumays, Yagori, Tuuolo-Samakaab, and Adhi'adeye. Las Anod
Las Anod (; ) is the administrative capital of the Sool region, currently controlled by Khatumo State forces aligned with Somalia. Territorial dispute The city is disputed by Puntland and Somaliland. The former bases its claim due to the kinship ties between the Dhulbahante clan and the dominant clan in Puntland, the Majeerteen, whilst the latter's claim is grounded on the border of the former British Somaliland Protectorate. The city was the proclaimed capital of Khatumo State throughout its existence until its dissolvement in 2017.
