The R6 is a railway service of RER Vaud that provides hourly service between and in the Swiss canton of Vaud. On weekdays, rush-hour services continue from Palézieux to , in Canton of Fribourg, Fribourg. Swiss Federal Railways, the national railway company of Switzerland, operates the service. Operations The R6 operates every hour between and , using the Lausanne–Geneva railway, Lausanne–Geneva line between Allaman and and the Lausanne–Bern railway, Lausanne–Bern line between Lausanne and , via . The R6 runs as an express between and . It is paired with the R5 (RER Vaud), R5 between Allaman and Palézieux, providing half-hourly service between the two cities. It serves as an approach from Geneva to the Simplon Railway and the line to Bern and Zürich. Lausanne–Bern Railway
The Lausanne–Bern railway is a mainline railway in Switzerland. The first part of the line was opened in 1860 and the original line was completed on 4 September 1862. The line was built by the Swiss Central Railway and the Lausanne–Fribourg–Bern Railway, which were taken over by the Swiss Federal Railways on its establishment in 1902. InterRegio
The InterRegio, often shortened to IR, is a train categories in Europe, train category for mainly domestic train services in use in some European countries, with Swiss Federal Railways operating the most dense network. InterRegio trains are semi-fast long-distance trains with more stops and usually lower prices than more upscale long-distance trains such as the InterCity (IC).
