The Río Tinto Foundation (in Spanish language, Spanish: ''Fundación Río Tinto'', FRT) is a Spain, Spanish cultural and non-profit institution based in the municipality of Minas de Riotinto, in the province of Huelva. The Foundation's objective is the study and preservation of the industrial heritage of the Rio Tinto Company Limited, Río Tinto Company Limited, as well as its recovery in projects that generate added value in the Río Tinto region. The foundation is involved in numerous cultural and recreational initiatives. Riotinto Mining Museum
Riotinto Mining Museum is a museum located in the Spanish municipality of Minas de Riotinto, in the province of Huelva, which is dedicated to the mining activity in the area and its history. The facilities were inaugurated in 1992 and are managed by the Rio Tinto Foundation. It has an important collection ranging from archaeological pieces to mining machinery and railroad locomotives. The Museum building is the former mining hospital of the Rio Tinto Company Limited. History The building that houses the museum was originally designed in 1921 as a hospital for the Rio Tinto Company Limited (RTC) staff, and was used for that purpose between 1927 and 1983.At the beginning of 1984, the new Hospital comarcal de Riotinto was inaugurated, which replaced the mining hospital. Rafael Benjumea Cabeza De Vaca
Rafael Benjumea y Cabeza de Vaca (29 January 1939 – 7 April 2021); Marquis of Valdecañas, Count of Peñón de la Vega & Count of Guadalhorce) was a Spanish aristocrat and engineer. He was also president of the Duques de Soria Foundation. Biography He was the son of Francisco Benjumea y Heredia (1908–1995), 3rd Count of Guadalhorce, and his wife Matilde Cabeza de Vaca y Garret (1915–2006), XVI Marquise of Valdecañas, Marquise of Torremayor, XVI Countess of Peñón de la Vega. He was the second of ten brothers and sisters. He received his doctorate in the Higher Technical School of Mining Engineers (Polytechnic University of Madrid). Subsequently, by means of a Fulbright scholarship completed a master's degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Michigan. In 1974 he married his cousin Blanca Benjumea Llorente. Ernest Lluch Martín (21 January 1937 – 21 November 2000) was a Spanish economist and politician, member of the Socialists' Party of Catalonia (PSC). He was Minister of Health and Consumption from 1982 to 1986 in the first Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) government of Felipe González. He was assassinated in 2000 by the Basque separatist organisation, ETA. Background Lluch was born in Vilassar de Mar, Barcelona province. Tourist Mining Train
The Tourist Mining Train is a Spanish tourist train that travels along the historic Riotinto Railway, in the province of Huelva, autonomous community of Andalusia. The first railway services were started in 1994 by the Río Tinto Foundation, using historical rolling stock. The tourist train is part of the Rio Tinto Mining Park, constituting one of its most attractive elements. Riotinto Railway
The Riotinto Railway was a Spanish narrow-gauge railway line, predominantly used for mining and industry, that operated between 1875 and 1984. During this time it became one of the main railways in the province of Huelva, gaining a large fleet of rolling stock. The railway was built between 1873 and 1875 by the British Rio Tinto Company Limited (RTC), that sought to provide maritime access to the minerals extracted from ore deposits in the Riotinto-Nerva mining basin.
