''Time of Roses'' () is a 1969 Finnish science fiction film directed by Risto Jarva, about a documentary filmmaker in 2012 trying to find the true essence of a glamor model, dead for forty years, for a TV film biography. The script was written by Peter von Bagh, Jarva, and Jaakko Pakkasvirta. The model was played by Ritva Vepsä and the documentarian by Arto Tuominen. The film premiered on 2 July 1969 in Finland, while the US premiere of the film was in New York City on October 19, 1970. An American indie film distributor and classic film restoration company Deaf Crocodile Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to the film in June 2022. Deaf Crocodile Films announced that they will release a new 4K resolution, 4K restoration of the film. Plot The story is set in the year 2012. Risto Jarva
Risto Antero Jarva (15 July 1934 – 16 December 1977) was a Finnish filmmaker. Jarva usually approached his long films and short documentary films from some social problem and from one or more possible ways to solve it. Such problems included the widespread use of cars, the position of women, city planning, pollution, the role of gossip magazines' journalists, and the Finnish society's remaining ideological divides. His 1967 film '' The Diary of a Worker'' was entered into the 5th Moscow International Film Festival. He was a seven time Jussi Awards winner. Jarva worked as an artistic professor of the film from 1970 to 1975 and as the Helsinki Applied Arts and Industry College's senior teacher from 1975 to 1977. His last film was '' Jäniksen vuosi'' ("The Year of the Hare"). He died in a car accident on his way back from a private showing of the film, and the subsequent party. Eila Mirjam Pehkonen (since 1948 Kostermaa, 18 October 1924 – 10 September 1991) was a Finnish actress. In theatre and films Pehkonen was born into a family of five children. She was interested in acting and theatre since childhood, and in 1945, Pehkonen began her studies at the Helsinki Theatre Academy, graduating in 1947.
