Rutherglen Football Club (1893)
The Rutherglen Football Club was an Australian rules football club based in Rutherglen, Victoria, being a founding member of the Ovens & Murray Football League in 1893. In 1979, the club merged with Corowa to form the Corowa-Rutherglen FC, joining the Ovens & Murray Football League. History The origins of the Rutherglen FC appears to of been established in 1877, with Mr. Thomas Reeve Junior acting as club secretary. When Rutherglen played Border United FC in August 1877, they wore a navy blue jumper, with Thomas Reeve elected as captain. In 1885, Rutherglen played Murray FC (Yarrawonga) for the Richards / Mitchell Cup, with both teams winning one game each. In 1888, Rutherglen President, Mr. G Graham JP donated a gold locket and six bangles to the best player for the season. Tallangatta & District Football League
The Tallangatta and District Football League (TDFL) is an Australian rules football competition in north-east Victoria and the southern border area of Riverina region of the New South Wales. The clubs compete across four competitions, two of which are age restricted (Under 17s, and Under 14s). Since 1980 the "Tallangatta & District Netball Association (TDNA)" has run in conjunction with the Tallangatta & District Football League. The clubs compete across six competitions, three of which are age restricted (18 & Under, 15 & Under, and 13 & Under). Today all of the 12 clubs across both the TDFL & TDNA are joint Football Netball Clubs, with the overall best club across all football and netball competitions for the season awarded the Club Championship. Clem Goonan (born 18 June 1939) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Goonan played his early football at Whorouly and won the Ovens & King Football League's best and fairest award in 1958. Frank D. Hodgkin (20 June 1941 – 17 December 2017) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Bob Hay (born 13 June 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Clive Philp
Clive Alexander Philp (28 February 1926 – 24 August 2007) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). War service Philp enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force at the age of 16 in 1942 and served until the end of the war. Greg Tate (footballer)
Gregory Herbert Tate (21 October 1925 – 27 May 2010) was an Australian rules footballer notable for playing with Essendon in the Victorian Football League. Football career Essendon Tate was recruited by Essendon before the 1947 VFL season from North Essendon Methodists, where he had played football after returning from World War II. In his first season, he played six matches, including the Grand Final which Essendon narrowly lost to Carlton. Keith Williams (Australian Footballer)
Keith Williams (27 May 1926 – 19 October 2004) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Williams originally played for the Rutherglen Football Club in the Murray Valley Patriotic Football League in 1944 and then played for the Border United Football Club and tied for the club Best & Fairest award in 1945. Williams continued to play for the Border United FC when they entered the Ovens & Murray Football League (O&MFL) in 1946. Williams was signed by Fitzroy in 1947, the year he won the Ovens & Murray Football League (O&MFL) Morris Medal with the Border United Football Club (Corowa). Jack Hiskins
Jack Hiskins (12 February 1911 – 16 March 1973) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career A half-back, Hiskins started his career in the Ovens & Murray Football League, with Rutherglen in 1930. (archived) He joined Essendon in the 1934 VFL season and made 13 appearances that year. Joseph Louis Jackson (25 November 1875 – 23 July 1943) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fred Hiskins
John Frederick Hiskins (8 August 1878 – 25 November 1946) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1900s. Hiskins came from a family of 16 and hailed from Lake Moodermere near Wahgunyah, Victoria. Hiskins played in Excelsior's 1900 Ovens & Murray Football League premiership prior to making his VFL debut in round 15, 1900 against South Melbourne. Hiskins was a half forward and topped the league's goalkicking in the 1901 VFL season with 34 goals, finishing the year in Essendon's premiership side. He would have kicked more that year had it not been for an inaccurate game against South Melbourne which saw him kick two goals and ten behinds.
