Rutherglen Football Club
The Rutherglen Football and Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club playing their home games in Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia. The current Rutherglen FNC was created after the merger of Ovens & Murray Football League sides Rutherglen and Corowa in 1979. Surplus players formed the Corowa-Rutherglen FC and played in the Coreen & District Football League for 13 years. A stint in the Ovens & King Football League followed before moving to the Tallangatta & District Football League. The club dropped the Corowa part in their name in 2002. History Predecessor club The original Rutherglen FC was established in 1877, with the first recorded match being against Wahgunyah Football Club on Wednesday, 3 June 1877. The Rutherglen Football Club was an Australian rules football club based in Rutherglen, Victoria, being a founding member of the Ovens & Murray Football League in 1893. In 1979, the club merged with Corowa to form the Corowa-Rutherglen FC, joining the Ovens & Murray Football League. History The origins of the Rutherglen FC appears to of been established in 1877, with Mr. Thomas Reeve Junior acting as club secretary. When Rutherglen played Border United FC in August 1877, they wore a navy blue jumper, with Thomas Reeve elected as captain. In 1885, Rutherglen played Murray FC (Yarrawonga) for the Richards / Mitchell Cup, with both teams winning one game each. In 1888, Rutherglen President, Mr. G Graham JP donated a gold locket and six bangles to the best player for the season. Tallangatta, Victoria
Tallangatta () is a town in north-eastern Victoria, Australia. The town lies on the banks of the Mitta Arm of Lake Hume, approximately south-east of Albury-Wodonga along the Murray Valley Highway. At the , Tallangatta had a population of 1,175. History Tallangatta was founded in the 1870s, the Post Office opening on 15 May 1871. On the arrival of the railway it served as a rail gateway for the Mitta and Upper Murray valleys (the Upper Murray only until the railway was extended to Cudgewa). Some gold and tin mining occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century, though, unlike Beechworth, little evidence of this remains. The amount of gold produced was relatively small compared to other mines elsewhere in the region. Since that time, Tallangatta has been a service centre for the local farming community, with a butter factory operating throughout much of the 20th century. Bret Peter Tarrant McKenzie (born 29 June 1976) is a New Zealand musician, comedian, music supervisor, and actor. He is best known as one half of musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords along with Jemaine Clement. John Longmire
John Longmire (born 31 December 1970) is the current coach of the Sydney Swans. As a player, he represented the North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 1988 to 1999. Early years Longmire was born in Corowa, New South Wales. He took up Australian rules as a child and first came into notice when he won the 1984 Thirds goal kicking award in the Coreen & District Football League with Corowa-Rutherglen. The Wodonga Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Bulldogs'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Wodonga, Victoria. History Wodonga's first recorded match was against the Albury Football Club on Saturday, 6 July 1878 in Wodonga.
