Runnymede Independent Residents Group
Runnymede Independent Residents' Group (RIRG) is a residents association and political party based in the Borough of Runnymede. It currently forms part of the administration of Runnymede Borough Council with Labour, Liberal Democrats, Greens and independents; one of its councillors, Linda Gillham, serves as co-leader of the council. History The group was founded in 2001. They have consistently held six seats on the borough council since then. The group has campaigned on issues including recycling and the building of an incinerator. RIRG was the sole opposition to the Conservative administration on the borough council from 2006 to 2013, when Ukip and an independent both won by-elections. Surrey County Council
Surrey County Council is the county council for the non-metropolitan county of Surrey, England. The council is composed of 81 elected councillors, and in all but one election since 1974 the Conservative Party has held the majority. The leader of the council is Tim Oliver. No Overall Control
In the context of local authorities in the United Kingdom no overall control (NOC; ) is a situation in which no single political group achieves a majority of seats, comparable to a hung parliament. Of the 248 councils who had members up for election in the 2019 local elections, 73 (over a quarter) resulted in a NOC administration. In the 2021 local elections, 14 resulted in no overall control. Outside of the UK, the term may be applied to other local authorities, such as the local councils of Malta and the General Assembly of Budapest in Hungary. 2024 Runnymede Borough Council Election
The 2024 Runnymede Borough Council election took place on 2 May 2024 to elect one-third of members of the Runnymede Borough Council in Surrey, England. This was on the same day as other 2024 United Kingdom local elections, local elections in England and 2024 England and Wales police and crime commissioner elections, police and crime commissioner elections. The election saw the Conservatives lose all but three of the ten seats they were defending. Notable losses include Chertsey St. Ann's, where the incumbent council deputy leader lost his seat to Labour, and New Haw where the Liberal Democrats saw the largest majority in the borough, gaining from the Conservatives. The 2015 Runnymede Borough Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect one third of members to Runnymede Borough Council in England. The UK Independence Party (UKIP, ) is a Eurosceptic, right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. Incineration
Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves the combustion of substances contained in waste materials. Industrial plants for waste incineration are commonly referred to as waste-to-energy facilities. Incineration and other high-temperature waste treatment systems are described as "thermal treatment". Incineration of waste materials converts the waste into ash, flue gas and heat. Runnymede is a water-meadow alongside the River Thames in the English county of Surrey, bordering Berkshire and just over west of central London.
