2015 Runnymede Borough Council Election
The 2015 Runnymede Borough Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect one third of members to Runnymede Borough Council in England. The election coincided with other local elections held simultaneously with a General Election and resulted in increased turnout compared to the election four years before. In Addlestone North a by-election added to seats vacant. All currently drawn wards of the United Kingdom in this area are three-member, with the different members' seats contested three years out of four. Runnymede Borough Council
Runnymede is a water-meadow alongside the River Thames in the English county of Surrey, and just over west of central London. It is notable for its association with the sealing of Magna Carta, and as a consequence is, with its adjoining hillside, the site of memorials. Runnymede (borough), Runnymede Borough is named after the area, Runnymede being at its northernmost point. Topography The name Runnymede refers to land in public and National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, National Trust ownership in the Thames flood plain south-west of the river between Old Windsor and Egham. The area includes (to the west of A308 road) the Long Mede and Runnymede, which together with Coopers Hill Slopes is managed by the National Trust. 2015 United Kingdom Local Elections
The 2015 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday 7 May 2015, the same day as the general election for the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. With the exception of those areas that have had boundary changes, the council seats up for election in England were last contested in the 2011 local elections. Background Elections would have been due in Northern Ireland given the previous elections to all 26 local councils in 2011, but these councils have since been scrapped and replaced by 11 super-councils, which had their inaugural elections in 2014. All registered electors ( British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens) who will be aged 18 or over on the day of the election were entitled to vote in the local elections. Terry Dicks
Terence Patrick "Phil" Dicks (17 March 1937 – 17 June 2020) was a British Conservative Party politician. He was MP for the constituency of Hayes and Harlington from 1983 to his retirement in 1997, having unsuccessfully contested Bristol South in 1979. He obtained the nickname Phil for, according to '' The Telegraph'', "elevating Philistinism to an art form". Early life and career Dicks was born in Bristol on 17 March 1937 with cerebral palsy. His early jobs included work at Imperial Tobacco as a clerk until 1959. He was educated at the University of Oxford (DipEcon) and the London School of Economics (BSc ( Econ)). Political career Outside Parliament Dicks was elected to Hillingdon Borough Council in 1974.
