Ruby Board
Ruby Willmet Board CMG (15 October 1880 – 25 December 1963) was an Australian community worker. She was known for her long association with the National Council of Women of Australia and with diabetes organisations. Early life Board was born on 15 October 1880 in Gunning, New South Wales. She was the only child of Jessie Allen (née Bowes) and Peter Board; her father was a schoolteacher by profession who eventually became the director of the New South Wales Department of Public Instruction. As a child, Board lived for periods at various locations around New South Wales as her father moved for his career. She was educated in Sydney, Berlin and Paris, before returning to Australia where she lived with her parents. She was supported by her father and had no need for paid employment. The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George is a British order of chivalry founded on 28 April 1818 by George, Prince of Wales (the future King George IV), while he was acting as prince regent for his father, King George III. Australian Comforts Fund
Australian Comforts Fund (ACF) was an Australian umbrella organisation for voluntary bodies set up after the outbreak of World War I. Many men and women worked at the ACF, including Alice Berry and Cyril Docker in WW2. World War I The Australian Comforts Fund was formally established nationally on 24 August 1916, although there was efforts in this direction at a state level. Irene Victoria Read was said to have lobbied the organisation from No 2 General Hospital in Egypt in 1915. The ACF provided 12 million mugs of tea for soldiers in the trenches during the course of the war. The Australian Comforts Fund was dissolved on 16 April 1920. World War II The Australian Comforts Fund was re-established in January 1940 to assist with World War II. The Australian Comforts Fund was dissolved once more on 27 June 1946. Diabetic coma is a life-threatening but reversible form of coma found in people with diabetes mellitus. Charles Best (medical Scientist)
Charles Herbert Best (February 27, 1899 – March 31, 1978), was an American-Canadian medical scientist and one of the co-discoverers of insulin with Frederick Banting. He served as the chair of the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research at the University of Toronto and was further involved in research concerning choline and heparin. Early life Charles Herbert Best was born in Pembroke, Maine, on February 27, 1899, to Luella (Lulu) Fisher and Herbert Huestis Best, a Canadian-born physician from Nova Scotia.
