Carl Ernst August Weihe
Carl Ernst August Weihe (1779–1834) was a German botanist and physician. Weihe was born on 30 January 1779 at Mennighüffen, the second of 12 children born to KarlJustus Weihe (1752-1829), a pastor, and his wife Anna (née Rebeker). As he later described himself as "''Mindensis''", it is probable that he received his schooling at the Gymnasium in Minden. Weihe was apprenticed to a pharmacist in Bielefeld, before attending the university at Halle, where he studied medicine and botany, receiving his doctorate in September 1802. He worked as a doctor at Lüttringhausen (near Remscheid) and Bünde, before moving back to Mennighüffen, where he established a small botanical garden on land owned by his father. In 1822, Weihe moved to Herford, where his children were at school, and where he died in 1834. During his career Weihe described some 160 new plant species. Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees Von Esenbeck
Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck (14 February 1776 – 16 March 1858) was a prolific German botanist, physician, zoologist, and natural philosopher. He was a contemporary of Goethe and was born within the lifetime of Linnaeus. He described approximately 7,000 plant species (almost as many as Linnaeus himself). His last official act as president of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina was to admit Charles Darwin as a member. He was the author of numerous monographs on botany and zoology. His best-known works deal with fungi. Biography Nees von Esenbeck was born in Schloss Reichenberg near Reichelsheim (Odenwald). He showed an early interest in science and, after receiving his primary education in Darmstadt, he went on to the University of Jena, obtaining his degree in biology (natural history) and medicine in 1800.
