Ruairidh Campbell (born 1998) is a Scottish professional rugby union referee who represents the Scottish Rugby Union. Rugby union career Referee career Professional career He has refereed in the Scottish Premiership. He refereed 52 matches in season 2018-19 and won the Crabbies Referee of the Season award. He refereed in the Amsterdam Sevens in 2018. He refereed his first Super 6 match on 24 November 2019; Watsonians v Stirling County. Campbell is part of the Borders Rugby Referee Society and the SRU panel. International career Campbell refereed the U18 match between Ireland and English Counties in April 2019. In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Scottish Premiership (rugby)
The Scottish Premiership (referred to as the Tennents Premiership for sponsorship reasons) is the highest level of amateur league competition for Scottish rugby union clubs. First held in 1973, it is the top division of the Scottish League Championship. The most recent (2024) champions are the Currie RFC, Currie Chieftains, who are also the youngest club to win the competition. The most successful club is Hawick RFC, Hawick, who have won the competition thirteen times. Super 6 (rugby Union)
The SRU Super Series, known as the FOSROC Super Series for sponsorship reasons, and prior to 2023 known as Super 6 is a professional league for Scottish rugby union clubs, which began in 2019. As of 2023, the league consists of two competitions. Concept Six clubs were awarded licences to play in the new Super 6 league by the Scottish Rugby Union. The idea of the Super 6 was to bridge a perceived gap between the Scottish Premiership and the then Pro14 league (now the United Rugby Championship league) level to aid player progression. Watsonian Football Club is a rugby union club based in Edinburgh and part of the Scottish Rugby Union. The club is connected with George Watson's College as a club for former pupils, and changed its policy in the 1980s to be a fully open club, welcoming players of all abilities regardless of whether they attended the school or not.
