Watsonian FC
Watsonian Football Club is a rugby union club based in Edinburgh and part of the Scottish Rugby Union. The club is connected with George Watson's College as a club for former pupils, and changed its policy in the 1980s to be a fully open club, welcoming players of all abilities regardless of whether they attended the school or not. It is one of a small number of rugby union clubs entitled to call itself a 'football club', rather than a 'rugby football club'. Scottish Rugby Union
The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; ) is the Sport governing body, governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Now marketed as Scottish Rugby, it is the second-oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. The SRU oversees the national league system, known as the Scottish League Championship, and the Scottish National teams. Sandy Gillies
Alexander Campbell Gillies (25 March 1900 — 22 January 1980) was a Scottish international rugby union player. Born in Easdale, Argyll, Gilles was educated at George Watson's College and the University of Edinburgh. Gilles was a towering number eight, standing at 6 ft 6 in. Known for his kicking abilities, Gilles was adept at the dribble kick and an accurate place kicker, often utilised for the longer shots. He gained 12 Scotland caps from 1924 to 1927. This included their 1925 Five Nations grand slam, during which he contributed a try against France and converted the first ever try scored at Murrayfield, in their Calcutta Cup encounter. He played for Watsonians RFC while a medical student in Edinburgh, then moved to England, playing for Manchester, Cheshire and Cumberland. Alexander William Angus (11 November 1889 – 23 March 1947) was a Scottish international rugby union and cricket player. 1993 British Lions
In 1993 the British Lions rugby union team toured New Zealand. This was the last Lions tour in the sport's amateur era. The Lions were managed by Geoff Cooke, coached by Ian McGeechan and Dick Best, and captained by Gavin Hastings. The Lions played a three-test series against New Zealand, and ten matches against provincial teams and the New Zealand Maori. They won six and lost four of those games. The Lions lost the first test match, but won the second to level the series, with New Zealand winning the third test and the series. Rory Underwood
Rory Underwood, (born 19 June 1963) is an English former rugby union player. He is 's record international try scorer, with 49 tries in 85 internationals between 1984 and 1996. Underwood's principal position was wing and he played 236 games for Leicester Tigers between 1983 and 1997, he also played for Middlesbrough, Bedford Blues and the Royal Air Force. Underwood toured with the British and Irish Lions in 1989 and 1993 playing in six tests and scoring one try. Anthony George Stanger (born 14 May 1968) is a Scottish former international rugby union player. Scott Hastings (born 4 December 1964) is a Scottish sports commentator and former Scotland international rugby union player. At the point of his retirement he was Scotland's most-capped player ever, but this record has now been beaten. Gavin Hastings
Andrew Gavin Hastings, (born 3 January 1962) is a Scottish former rugby union player. A fullback, he is widely regarded to be one of the best ever Scottish rugby players and was one of the outstanding players of his generation, winning 61 caps for Scotland, 20 of which as captain.
