The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'' in 1985, by order of first appearance. They were all introduced by the show's creator and executive producer Reg Watson. The 1st season of ''Neighbours'' began airing on 18 March 1985. The first episode introduced the members of the Ramsay and Robinson families as well as bachelor Des Clarke, and his soon-to-be wife and former stripper Daphne Lawrence. Max Ramsay, his wife Maria and their sons, Shane and Danny lived at Number 24. Jim Robinson lived next door with his children; Paul, Julie, Scott and Lucy. They were joined by Jim's mother in law, Helen Daniels. Myra De Groot joined the cast as Des's mother, Eileen and Maxine Klibingaitis arrived as plumber's assistant, Terry Inglis. Neighbours
''Neighbours'' is an Australian television soap opera that has aired since 18 March 1985. It was created by television executive Reg Watson. The Seven Network commissioned the show following the success of Watson's earlier soap '' Sons and Daughters''. Although successful in Melbourne, ''Neighbours'' underperformed in the Sydney market and was cancelled by Seven four months after it began airing. It was immediately commissioned by rival Network Ten for a second production season, which began screening on 20 January 1986. ''Neighbours'' became the longest-running drama series in Australian television history. In 2005, it was inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame. The storylines concern the lives of the people who live and work in Erinsborough, a fictional suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. Peter O'Brien is an Australian actor, best known for his role as an original cast member in 1985 of Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'' as Shane Ramsay. He has also acted in numerous British and American productions. Career O'Brien played a regular role in short-lived soap opera '' Starting Out ''(1983), and then had guest roles in '' Carson's Law'' in 1983 and ''Prisoner'' in 1984 and appeared in '' The Henderson Kids''. He was then cast as Shane Ramsay, a regular original character in soap opera ''Neighbours'' on the Seven Network in 1985. Ramsay Street
Ramsay Street is the fictional cul-de-sac in which the characters of the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'' live. The street is set in the equally fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough. ''Neighbours'' storylines primarily centre on the residents of the street, which was named after Jack Ramsay, the grandfather of original character Max Ramsay (Francis Bell (actor), Francis Bell). A blackjack game between Jack and Sam Robinson determined whom the street would be named after. Only six houses on the street are featured on a regular basis; numbers #No. 22, 22 to #No. 32, 32. #No. 34, Number 34 was featured for the only time in 2018. Francis Bell (actor)
Wayne Francis Earl Bell (18 April 1944 – 3 May 1994) was a New Zealand-born actor who achieved international stardom playing the part of original character Max Ramsay in the early years of the popular Australian soap opera, ''Neighbours''. During his career he also acted in Australian serials ''The Sullivans'' and '' Sons and Daughters''. He appeared in 15 films from 1976 until his death. Patricia Anne Haddy (5 October 1930 – 6 June 1999), credited also as Anne Hardy, was an Australian actress, television presenter and voice artist, who worked in various facets of the industry including radio, stage and television. She was married to actor and scriptwriter James Condon. Michael Martin is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'', played by Troy Beckwith. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 8 October 1985. The character was originally played by Samuel Hammington. Beckwith took over the role in 1992 and appeared on a regular basis until 1994, but continued to make guest appearances until 1998. Debbie Martin
Debbie Martin is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'', played by Marnie Reece-Wilmore. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 22 July 1985. Debbie was originally played by Mandy Storvik and Katrina McEwan. Reece-Wilmore was cast in the role when the character was reintroduced with her family in 1992. She had to relocate to Melbourne for filming. The character later became part of the serial's new "brat pack".
