Rosalyn (song)
"Rosalyn" is the debut single by British rock band Pretty Things, released in 1964. It charted at number 41 in the United Kingdom. History "Rosalyn" was written by songwriter Jimmy Duncan, who was also co-manager of the Pretty Things with Bryan Morrison at the time, along with Bill Farley, studio owner where the band was recording. The song was recorded as their debut single on Fontana Records, and became the Pretties first hit, reaching No. 41 on the UK singles chart in July 1964. It features Bo Diddley style lead guitar as well as prominent slide guitar. Pretty Things
Pretty Things were an English Rock music, rock band formed in September 1963 in Sidcup, Kent, taking their name from Bo Diddley's 1955 song "Pretty Thing", and active in their first incarnation until 1971. They released five studio albums, including the debut ''The Pretty Things (album), The Pretty Things'' (UK Albums Chart #6) and ''S. F. Sorrow'' (the first rock opera), four Extended Plays, EPs and 15 UK singles, including the Top 20 UK Singles Chart "Don't Bring Me Down (Pretty Things song), Don't Bring Me Down" and "Honey I Need". They reformed later in 1971 and continued through to 1976 issuing three more studio albums, and reformed once again from 1979 to 2020 releasing another five studio albums, the last of which was ''Bare as Bone, Bright as Blood''. John Stax
John Stax (born John Edward Lee Fullagar, 6 April 1944, Crayford, Kent) is an English musician best known as original bassist for the Pretty Things. He adopted the name "Stax" because of his fondness for the music produced by Stax Records. Stax played on all of their charting singles, which included " Rosalyn," "Don't Bring Me Down," " Midnight to Six Man," " Road Runner," " Honey I Need", and "Cry to Me." He also frequently contributed backing vocals as well as playing harmonica. He played on the Pretty Things' first three albums: ''The Pretty Things'', '' Get the Picture?'' and ''Emotions'', although his exact contributions to the latter are unknown. He also played on the band's first two EPs, ''The Pretty Things'' and ''"Rainin' in My Heart".'' He was part of The Pretty Things infamous tour of New Zealand in 1965. ''Bugger Off!'' is the second album by Stack Waddy, released in 1972 on Dandelion Records. The album liner notes by Dandelion Records's owner and executive producer, John Peel, indicate each song was recorded in a single live take with the band refusing to make any kind of overdubbing or technical treatment on the resulting sound. He narrates that on one occasion he asked them to run through a song a second time and the band members yelled "''Bugger Off!, Peel''", which gave rise to the album's title. Critical reception Music website Allmusic gave Bugger Off! four out of five stars. Reviewer Dave Thompson highlights the authenticity and rawness of the band, and says the album expands the fierceness in their self-titled debut album, defining it as ''positively antisocial''. Stack Waddy
Stack Waddy were an English blues rock band from Timperley, Cheshire, who were active in the late 1960s and early 1970s and again in 2007. Signed to John Peel's Dandelion label, the original line-up of John Knail, Mick Stott (born 1945, Salford, Lancashire died 6 January 2015), Stuart Banham and Steve Revel (replaced by John Groom on second album) released two albums and singles before breaking up for a while in 1973. On 24 January 1972 (transmitted on 18 February), the band also recorded a performance for the John Peel BBC Radio 1 show, the tracks were: " Hoochie Coochie Man", "Rock Me Baby", "You Really Got Me" and " Willie the Pimp". They have reconvened several times with their second line-up of Knail, Stott, Banham and Groom; with the last get together for the Dandelion Records biographical DVD film shoot in July 2007. ''Pin Ups'' (also referred to as ''Pinups'' and ''Pin-Ups'') is the seventh studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released on 19October 1973 through RCA Records. Devised as a "stop-gap" album to appease his record label, it is a covers album, featuring glam rock and proto-punk versions of songs by 1960s bands who were influential to Bowie as a teenager, including the Pretty Things, the Who, the Yardbirds and Pink Floyd. Viv Prince
Vivian Martin Prince (born 9 August 1941) is an English drummer. He played in a variety of bands during the 1960s, including Pretty Things. He was noted for his wild and eccentric behaviour, which garnered a lot of publicity for the group and influenced Keith Moon. Biography Viv Prince was born in Loughborough. His father, Harry Prince, played in a local jazz band. Viv's first instrument was a guitar, but then he switched to playing drums. After leaving school, he worked briefly as a tax officer. He also started playing with local jazz bands, including in his father's band as a hobby. Viv Prince's first professional work as a musician was with the traditional jazz band Lennie Baldwin's Dauphin Street Six in 1961, with whom he toured in Denmark and made his first recordings in 1962. Brian Pendleton
Brian Pendleton (13 April 1944 – 16 May 2001) was a British guitarist, and a founder member of the 1960s pop group Pretty Things. Early life Born in Wolverhampton, England, Pendleton moved south as a child, attending Dartford Grammar School. After school, he started work in the same field as his father as a trainee insurance clerk, before responding to an advertisement placed in ''Melody Maker'' by Dick Taylor and Phil May of the Pretty Things, seeking a guitarist.
