John Bonfoy Rooper
John Bonfoy Rooper (8 August 1778 – March 1855) was a British Member of Parliament. Life He was born the eldest son of John Rooper of Berkhampstead Castle, Hertfordshire and Abbots Ripton Hall, Huntingdonshire, and was educated at Rugby School from 1790. He matriculated at St. John's College, Cambridge in 1797, graduating B.A. in 1801, and entered Lincoln's Inn in 1800. He succeeded his father in 1826. In his youth Rooper travelled to America and became a staunch Liberal. While he was there the family lost possession of Berkhampstead Castle and retreated to Abbots Ripton. In 1831 he was elected MP for Huntingdonshire, sitting until he was defeated in 1837. He was appointed High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire for 1845–1846. Rooper died on 11 March 1855 from a domestic accident, falling over bannisters. Jemima Rooper (born 24 October 1981) is a British actress. Having started as a child actress in television series, she has appeared in numerous film and theatre roles. Background Born in Hammersmith, London, Rooper is the daughter of TV journalist Alison Rooper. She attended Redcliffe Primary School in Chelsea and the Godolphin and Latymer School. While working on ''The Famous Five'', she passed eight GCSEs with A* and A grades. From there she went to MPW sixth form college where she got three A-grade A levels. Edward Rooper
Edward Rooper (25 January 1818 Wick Hall, Furze Hill, Brighton - 11 or 15 November 1854 Inkerman, Crimea) was an English soldier, landscape painter, and botanical collector and illustrator. He was the fourth son of the Rev. Thomas Richard Rooper (1782-1865) and Persis Standly (1783-1871), with siblings William Henry Rooper, Marianne Rooper, George Rooper, Henrietta Persis Rooper and John Rooper. He was the grandson of John Rooper of Berkhamsted Castle. He received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade on 2 September 1834 and was promoted to Captain on 2 September 1842, and to brevet Major on 26 September 1854. He served in South Africa with the Rifle Brigade after landing at Algoa Bay on 20 November 1846 and was promptly posted to the Kei where he took part in the Seventh Xhosa War, mainly in the Amatola Mountains.
