Ron Rivera
Ronald Eugene Rivera (born January 7, 1962) is an American football executive and former professional player and coach who is the general manager for the California Golden Bears. He played nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL) as a linebacker for the Chicago Bears and was a member of their 1985 team that won Super Bowl XX. Rivera later served as the head coach of the NFL's Carolina Panthers and Washington Football Team / Commanders, earning two NFL Coach of the Year awards with the former. Rivera played college football for the Golden Bears, earning consensus All-American honors in 1983. He was selected by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 1984 NFL draft. His coaching career began in 1997 when he served as a quality control coach for the Bears. A general manager (GM) is a sports management position for an American football team who typically oversees 53-man roster, rosters and contracts. GMs answer directly to the team's owner in such an organizational model and are viewed as the team's most senior executive in football operations. Professional football The general manager (GM) is typically the head of football operations, which includes leading the Scout (sport), scouting department and being responsible for handling free agent transactions and contract negotiations with players and coaches. A fumble in gridiron football occurs when a player who has possession and control of the ball loses it before being downed (tackled), scoring, or going out of bounds. By rule, it is any act other than passing, kicking, punting, or successful handing that results in loss of ball possession by a player. In gridiron football, a sack occurs when the quarterback (or another offensive player acting as a passer) is tackle (football move), tackled behind the line of scrimmage before throwing a forward pass, when the quarterback is tackled behind the line of scrimmage in the "passing pocket, pocket" and without clear intent, or when a passer runs out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage due to defensive pressure. PFWA
The Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA), sometimes known as Pro Football Writers Association, is an organization that purports to be " heofficial voice of pro football writers, promoting and fighting for access to NFL personnel to best serve the public." Goals of the organization include improving access to practices and locker rooms, developing working relationships with all teams, and ensuring that football writers are treated in a professional manner. George Halas Award
The George Halas Award is given by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) to a National Football League (NFL) player, coach or staff member who overcomes the most adversity to succeed. The award is named for George Halas, a charter member (1963) of the Pro Football Hall of Fame who was associated with the Chicago Bears and NFL from their inception in 1920 until his death in 1983 as an owner, manager, player and promoter. Halas represented the Bears, then known as the Decatur Staleys, at the Sept. 17, 1920 organizational meeting of the American Football Association in Canton, Ohio.
