General Manager (American Football)
A general manager (GM) is a sports management position for an American football team who typically oversees 53-man roster, rosters and contracts. GMs answer directly to the team's owner in such an organizational model and are viewed as the team's most senior executive in football operations. Professional football The general manager (GM) is typically the head of football operations, which includes leading the Scout (sport), scouting department and being responsible for handling free agent transactions and contract negotiations with players and coaches. The scouting department's role is to evaluate college football players entering the annual NFL draft. During the NFL Combine, general managers will interview players. Many GMs begin their front office career as an assistant scout and are promoted into roles such as director of college scouting or vice president of player personnel before being GM. Monti A. Ossenfort (born February 24, 1978) is an American professional football executive who is the general manager of the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He began his NFL career as an intern for the Minnesota Vikings in 2001 before serving in the scouting department for the Houston Texans during their inaugural season in 2002. Ossenfort would leave to serve as an assistant with the New England Patriots the following year before returning to the Texans as a scout. He would go back to the Patriots in 2006, where he served various executive roles with them and as director of player personnel for the Tennessee Titans before being named general manager of the Cardinals in 2023. 2024 Carolina Panthers Season
The 2024 season was the Carolina Panthers' 30th in the National Football League (NFL), their first under head coach Dave Canales and new general manager Dan Morgan. Daniel Thomas Morgan Jr. (born December 19, 1978) is an American professional football executive and former linebacker who is the president of football operations and general manager for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as the assistant general manager for the Panthers, the director of player personnel for the Buffalo Bills and the director of pro personnel for the Seattle Seahawks. Eric DeCosta (born April 10, 1971) is an American professional football executive who is the executive vice president and general manager of the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). DeCosta has been with the Ravens organization since 1996 and previously served as assistant general manager under Ozzie Newsome from 2012 to 2018.
