Romsdalhorn
Romsdalshornet is a mountain in the municipality of Rauma in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The mountain is located southeast of the town of Ă…ndalsnes, along the Rauma River in the Romsdalen valley. The Rauma railway line and the European route E136 highway both pass by the mountain. The mountain Store Venjetinden lies east of the mountain and to the west (across the valley) lies the mountain Store Trolltind—part of the Troll Wall/Trollryggen ridge. Romsdalshornet is a popular mountain for climbing, which is best done in late summer. Descent by rappel is recommended. History The first "official" ascent was 1 September 1881 by the Danish climber, Carl Hall, together with Norwegians, Erik Norahagen and Mathias Soggemoen. Axel Lindahl
Axel Theodor Lindahl (27 July 1841 – 11 December 1906) was a Swedish photographer notable for his early photography of Norwegian landscapes. Lindahl was born in Mariestad in southwestern Sweden. With his brother Udo he opened his own photography studio in Uddevalla in 1865; within one year, his work was exhibited in museums. By around 1867, he had moved his business to Gothenburg. Once established there, he extended his interest to landscape photography, focusing initially on the Swedish west coast, and then moving into Norway. In 1883 he sold his interest in the studio in Sweden and made Norwegian landscapes his exclusive area of business, working closely with the publisher Rich. Andvord. Unlike many of his contemporary photographers who emphasized the dramatic nature of Norwegian landscapes, Lindahl sought in his composition the harmonious aesthetic of his subject matter. Store Trolltind
Store Trolltind a mountain summit in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. At in height, it is the highest point along the Trolltindane ridge. It has the vertical Trollveggen cliff separating the peak from the Romsdalen valley below, a drop of about which makes it the highest vertical cliff in Europe. The Rauma River and the European route E136 highway lie to the east in the valley. The Trollryggen peak is located about to the south. The easiest access to the summit is by walking from the parking lot at Trollstigen about to the southwest. Directly beneath the summit, one might prefer a rope for securing the last climb. Arne Randers Heen
Arne Randers Heen (4 April 1905 – 7 February 1991) was a Norwegian mountain climber and member of the Norwegian resistance during World War II. Personal life Heen was born in Hen, Møre og Romsdal, and worked as a tailor in nearby Ă…ndalsnes. He was a half brother of Gunnar Randers junior and uncle of Jørgen Randers. His father Gunnar Randers senior (1877-1963) was a civil engineer that worked in Ă…lesund after the 1904 fire. Heen's mother Sofie Heen (1877–1959) at the time worked as a waitress in Ă…lesund. His parents did not marry. Arne Randers Heen was a tailor like his mother. Career Heen is known for several first ascents, and his many ascents of Romsdalshorn, including the first winter climbing of the mountain. He was Norway's leading mountaineer from the 1920s to the 1950s. A cairn is a man-made pile (or stack) of stones raised for a purpose, usually as a marker or as a burial mound. The word ''cairn'' comes from the gd, cĂ rn (plural ). Mathias Soggemoen
Mathias Soggemoen (5 October 1847 – 1929) was a Norwegian railway worker, mountain climbing pioneer and guide. Mathias Johnsen Soggemoen was born the oldest of seven siblings in Rauma, Norway, Rauma in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. In 1875, he married Ingeborg Olsdatter Sogge Brekken and settled at the village of Veblungsnes. They were the parents of nine children. Later in life, Mathias and Ingeborg Soggemoen emigrated to America with several of their children. Soggemoen is known for a number of first ascents of Norwegian mountains. Among his first ascents are Store Austanbotntind (1883, with Carl Hall (born 1848), Carl Hall), Store Styggedalstinden (1883, with Hall), Midtre Skagastølstind (1884, with Hall), Hjelledalstind (1884, with Hall), Storebjørn (1884, with Hall), and Sentraltind (1885, with Hall and Torger S. Rappel
Abseiling ( ; ), also known as rappelling ( ; ), is the controlled descent of a steep slope, such as a rock face, by moving down a rope. When abseiling the person descending controls their own movement down the rope, in contrast to lowering off in which the rope attached to the person descending is paid out by their belayer. This technique is used by climbers, mountaineers, cavers, canyoners, search and rescue and rope access technicians to descend cliffs or slopes when they are too steep and/or dangerous to descend without protection. Trollryggen is a peak along the Trolltindene ridge along the Romsdalen valley. It is located in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The Rauma River and the European route E136 highway lie just to the east of the ridge at the bottom of the valley. The north face of the peak is part of the famous Trollveggen (Troll Wall)—the highest vertical cliff in Europe. The highest peak on that ridge is Store Trolltind, about to the north. Troll Wall
The or is part of the mountain massif Trolltindene (Troll Peaks) in the Romsdalen valley in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located to the south of the towns of Åndalsnes and Molde inside the Reinheimen National Park. The Troll Wall is the tallest vertical rock face in Europe, about from its base to the summit of its highest point. At its steepest, the summit ridge overhangs the base of the wall by nearly . The Rauma River, the Rauma railway and the European Route E136 run just to the east of the wall. The rock is gneiss, formed into a broken rock wall of huge corners, concave roofs, and crack systems, topped with a series of spires and pinnacles on the summit rim.
