Rock Australia Magazine
''Rock Australia Magazine'' or ''RAM'' (its acronym and popular name) was a fortnightly national Australian music newspaper, which was published from 1975 to 1989. It was designed for people with a serious interest in rock and pop, and was considered the journal of record for the Australian music scene, along the way producing some of the country's best writers on music and popular culture. History ''RAM'' was founded in Sydney by Anthony O'Grady – a former advertising copywriter who had contributed to the earlier pop weekly, ''Go-Set'', in its dying days, and had edited the short-lived ''Ear for Music'' magazine – and Phillip Mason, a young British publishing executive with the IPC media empire who'd been seconded to Australia. Anthony O'Grady
Anthony Austin O'Grady (28 January 194719 December 2018) was an Australian writer, music journalist, editor and producer. He created and edited ''Rock Australia Magazine'' from 1975 to 1981. He wrote articles for '' The Bulletin''. In 1994 O'Grady co-created the Music Network. For 15 years he was an oral history interviewer for National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA). O'Grady authored the 2001 biography ''Cold Chisel: The Pure Stuff'' detailing the Australian band Cold Chisel. Biography Anthony Austin O'Grady was born on 28 January 1947 and was raised in Sydney, New South Wales with two siblings. Cold Chisel
Cold Chisel are an Australian Pub rock (Australia), pub rock band, which formed in Adelaide in 1973 by mainstay members Ian Moss on guitar and vocals, Steve Prestwich on drums, Les Kaczmarek on bass and Don Walker (musician), Don Walker on piano and keyboards. They were soon joined by Jimmy Barnes on lead vocals and, in 1975, Phil Small became their bass guitarist. The group disbanded in late 1983 but subsequently re-formed several times. Musicologist Ian McFarlane wrote that they became "one of Australia's best-loved groups" as well as "one of the best live bands", fusing "a combination of rockabilly, hard rock and rough-house soul'n'blues that was defiantly Australian in outlook." The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is Australia’s principal public service broadcaster. ABC Radio National, more commonly known as Radio National or simply RN, is an Australian nationwide public service radio network run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). From 1947 until 1985, the network was known as ABC Radio 2. Died Pretty, sometimes The Died Pretty, were an Australian alternative rock band founded by mainstays Ron Peno (lead singer) and Brett Myers (lead guitarist and backing vocalist) in Sydney in 1983. Their music started from a base of early electric Bob Dylan with psychedelic influences, including The Velvet Underground and Television. They were managed by John Needham, who is the owner of Citadel Records, their main label. Toby Creswell (born 21 May 1955) is an Australian music journalist and pop-culture writer. He was editor of ''Rolling Stone'' (Australia) and a founding editor of ''Juice''. In 1986, he co-wrote, his first book, ''Too Much Ain't Enough'' a biography of pub rocker and former Cold Chisel vocalist Jimmy Barnes. ''Roadrunner'' was a monthly Australian music magazine based in Adelaide, South Australia. The magazine was founded by Donald Robertson and Stuart Coupe, and initially run by a co-operative, with Robertson ending up as sole editor and publisher. There were 48 issues published between March 1978 and January 1983. All issues were made available online in 2017, and a limited hardback anthology version was published in October 2019. Jimmy And The Boys
Jimmy and the Boys were an Australian shock rock and new wave band, active from 1976 to 1982. They pioneered the use of shock theatrics in Australia with an act that revolved around vocalist and contortionist Ignatius Jones and keyboard player Joylene Thornbird Hairmouth. The group recorded two studio albums, ''Not Like Everybody Else'' (November 1979) and ''Teddy Boys Picnic'' (July 1981). In May 1981 they scored their only Australian top 10 single with "They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk to Me". In 1982, shortly after issuing their live album ''In Hell with Your Mother'', they disbanded. ''Juke Magazine'' was a weekly Australian rock and pop newspaper published in Melbourne that ran from 1975 to 1992. It was founded by Ed Nimmervoll (former editor of ''Go-Set'' magazine) who was the editor and one of its writers. ''Juke'' also featured Australian music journalist Christie Eliezer as a key staff writer and rock photographers such as Graeme Webber, Bob King, Tony Mott and David Parker. Vincent James Lovegrove (19 March 1947 – 24 March 2012) was an Australian musician, journalist, music manager, television producer and AIDS awareness pioneer. He was a member of 1960s rock 'n' roll band The Valentines, sharing vocals with Bon Scott whom he later introduced to heavy rock group AC/DC.
