Robert Vahey
Robert Vahey (1932 – 29 October 2013), was a British actor, known for his supporting roles in Samson and Delilah (1959), '' Z-Cars'' (1972), '' Secret Army'' (1978), '' Only Fools and Horses'' (1983 & 1986), '' Mapp and Lucia'' (1985), ''Wycliffe'' (1996), '' The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'' (2003), and the Ricky Gervais Ricky Dene Gervais ( ; born 25 June 1961) is an English comedian, actor, writer, and director. He co-created, co-wrote, and acted in the British television sitcoms ''The Office'' (2001–2003), '' Extras'' (2005–2007), and '' An Idiot Abroad' ... comedy '' Derek'' (2013), amongst many others. He is however, probably best remembered for his role as boat builder Bill Sayers, in 75 episodes of the 1980s television series '' Howards' Way''. ''Z-Cars'' or ''Z Cars'' (pronounced "zed cars") is a British television police procedural series centred on the work of mobile uniformed police in the fictional town of Newtown, based on Kirkby, near Liverpool. Produced by the BBC, it debuted in January 1962 and ran until September 1978. The series differed sharply from earlier police procedurals. With its less-usual Northern England setting, it injected a new element of harsh realism into the image of the police, which some found unwelcome. ''Secret Army'' is a British television drama made by the BBC and the Belgian national broadcaster BRT (now VRT) created by Gerard Glaister. It tells the story of a fictional Belgian resistance movement in German-occupied Belgium during the Second World War dedicated to returning Allied airmen, usually having been shot down by the Luftwaffe, to Great Britain. It was made in the UK and Belgium and three series were broadcast on BBC1 between 7 September 1977 and 15 December 1979. ''Mapp and Lucia'' is a British television series, set in the fictional Sussex coastal town of Tilling and based on three 1930s novels by E. F. Benson, beginning with '' Mapp and Lucia''. ''Wycliffe'' is a British television series, based on W. J. Burley's novels about Detective Superintendent Charles Wycliffe. It was produced by HTV and broadcast on the ITV Network, following a pilot episode on 7 August 1993, between 24 July 1994 and 5 July 1998. The series was filmed in Cornwall, with a production office in Truro. Music for the series was composed by Nigel Hess, who was nominated for the Royal Television Society award for the best original television theme in 1997. Charles Wycliffe is played by Jack Shepherd, assisted by DI Doug Kersey ( Jimmy Yuill) and DI Lucy Lane ( Helen Masters). Each episode deals with a murder investigation. ''Howards' Way'' is a television drama series produced by BBC Birmingham and transmitted on BBC1 between 1 September 1985 and 25 November 1990.
