Ricky Dene Gervais ( ; born 25 June 1961) is an English comedian, actor, writer, television producer and filmmaker. He co-created, co-wrote, and acted in the British television sitcoms ''The Office (British TV series), The Office'' (2001–2003), ''Extras (TV series), Extras'' (2005–2007), and ''Life's Too Short (TV series), Life's Too Short'' (2011–2013) with Stephen Merchant. He also created, wrote, and starred in ''Derek (TV series), Derek'' (2012–2014) and ''After Life (TV series), After Life'' (2019–2022). ''Life's Too Short'' is a British mockumentary sitcom created and written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, and starring Warwick Davis, about "the life of a showbiz dwarf."
