Robert William Lombard (18 October 1895 – July 1972) was the first coloured Helper Apostle of the Old Apostolic Church of Africa and founder of the Non-White Old Apostolic Church, that was later renamed to the Reformed Old Apostolic Church The Reformed Old Apostolic Church is a chiliastic denomination with roots in the Catholic Apostolic Church and the Old Apostolic Church. Coloured
Coloureds () are multiracial people in South Africa, Namibia and, to a smaller extent, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Their ancestry descends from the interracial mixing that occurred between Europeans, Africans and Asians. Interracial mixing in South Africa began in the 17th century in the Dutch Cape Colony where the Dutch men mixed with Khoi Khoi women, Bantu women and Asian female slaves, producing mixed race children. Eventually, interracial mixing occurred throughout South Africa and the rest of Southern Africa with various other European nationals (such as the Portuguese, British, Germans, Irish etc.) who mixed with other African tribes which contributed to the growing number of mixed-race people, who would later be officially classified as Coloured by the apartheid government. The Old Apostolic Church (OAC) is a church with roots in the Catholic Apostolic Church. History The Old Apostolic Church's roots are found in the Catholic Apostolic Church that was established in 1832 as an outflow of the Albury Movement. Establishment in Africa The founder of the Apostolic Church in South Africa, Carl George Klibbe, was born on 24 December 1852 in Pomerania at the Baltic Sea and was a preacher in the Lutheran Church when he had contact with the Apostolic doctrine in a town named Schladen in Germany where he met Heinrich Friedrich Niemeyer, Heinrich Niemeyer for the first time. It was years later in 1886, after Klibbe moved to Hatton Vale in Queensland, Australia, that he and his family were convinced of this doctrine and sealed by the same person Apostle H. F. Niemeyer. The Reformed Old Apostolic Church is a chiliastic denomination with roots in the Catholic Apostolic Church and the Old Apostolic Church. It is part of a branch in Christianity called Irvingism with membership throughout South Africa. It has approximately 180,000 members. History The Reformed Old Apostolic Church broke away from the Old Apostolic Church. It was founded in 1972 by Robert Lombard, a former Helper Apostle of the Old Apostolic Church of Africa. Robert Lombard had been ordained as an Apostle in the Old Apostolic Church in 1958 by Apostle William Campbell, to assist in the coloured congregations of the Cape church. Lombard was the first coloured, and the second non-white Helper Apostle of the Old Apostolic Church.
