Robert Holland, 1st Baron Holand
Robert de Holland, 1st Baron Holand ( 1283 – October 1328) was an English nobleman, born in Lancashire. Early life Holland was a son of Sir Robert de Holland of Upholland, Lancashire, and Elizabeth, daughter of William de Samlesbury. Holland was a member of the noble Holland family and a favourite official of Thomas, 2nd Earl of Lancaster, and was knighted by 1305. He was appointed on 20 December 1307 in a matter concerning the Knight Templars, shortly before Edward II ordered their arrest and trials in January 1308. In October 1313 Holland was pardoned for his role in the death of Piers Gaveston. From 1314 to 1321 he was called to Parliament as a baron and was appointed as secretary to the Earl of Lancaster. Robert Clyde "Dutch" Holland (October 12, 1903 – June 16, 1967) was an American outfielder in Major League Baseball. He played for the Boston Braves from 1932 to 1933 and the Cleveland Indians in 1934. Holland attended North Carolina State College, where he played college baseball for the Wolfpack from 1923 to 1925. Robert George Holland (19 October 1946 – 17 September 2017) was a New South Wales and Australian cricketer. He was, because of his surname, nicknamed "Dutchy". Holland, who spent the majority of his cricketing life in Newcastle, was a late bloomer, and his Test debut aged 38 made him the oldest Australian debutant in more than half a century. It was not until the 1978–79 season, aged 32, that the New South Wales selectors called up Holland to continue the state’s long tradition of leg spin bowling. He quickly formed an integral part of the bowling attack that made the state the dominant domestic team in the Sheffield Shield in the 1980s. Sir Robert Erskine Holland, KCIE, CSI, CVO, VD (29 June 1873 – 30 September 1965) was an administrator in British India. A member of the Indian Civil Service and of the Indian Political Service, he was Agent to the Governor-General in Rajputana and Chief Commissioner of Ajmer-Merwara from 1919 to 1925. The son of Sir Thomas Erskine Holland, Robert Holland was educated at Winchester College and Oriel College, Oxford. He entered the Indian Civil Service in 1895. In retirement, he was a member of the Council of India from 1925 to 1931, when he resigned at the beginning of his second five-year term. Having been called to the English bar by Lincoln's Inn in 1930, he was appointed Judicial Adviser to the Siamese Government, which carried membership of the Supreme Court of Siam.
