Rob L. Wagner
Rob L. Wagner (روب واقنر) (born 1954) is an American documentary filmmaker and journalist covering Middle East issues, particularly political and social topics in Saudi Arabia. His documentaries focus on history. In 2015 he was the Saudi Arabia correspondent for the London-based ''The Arab Weekly'' newspaper. He previous served as managing editor of the ''Arab News'', an English-language daily newspaper based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the ''Saudi Gazette'', a competitor of the ''Arab News''. Wagner was also the top editor of ''Construction Week'' magazine in Dubai and is the author of numerous history books. Career Wagner, who grew up in Sierra Madre, California, began his journalism career in 1974 at the now-defunct Monrovia ''Daily News-Post'' as a copy boy and later worked as sports editor for the Hollywood ''Daily Independent''. The University for Peace (UPEACE) is an international university and intergovernmental organization established as a treaty organisation by the United Nations General Assembly in 1980. The university offers postgraduate, doctoral, and executive programmes related to the study of peace and conflict, environment and development, and international law. The headquarters of the University for Peace are located in a natural area near Ciudad Colón, Costa Rica. However, the university also has a presence in other countries, notably Somalia and the Netherlands. Lonely Planet is a travel guide book publisher. Founded in Australia in 1973, the company has printed over 150 million books. History 20th century Lonely Planet was founded by married couple Maureen Wheeler, Maureen and Tony Wheeler. In 1972, they embarked on an overland trip through Europe and Asia to Australia following the route of the Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition. The company name originates from the Mondegreen, misheard "lovely planet" in a song written by Matthew Moore. Lonely Planet's first book, ''Across Asia on the Cheap'', had 94 pages; it was written by the couple in their home. The original 1973 print run consisted of stapled booklets with pale blue cardboard covers. ''Gulf News'' is a daily English language newspaper published from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. First launched in 1978, it is distributed throughout the UAE and also in other Persian Gulf countries. The ''Yemen Times'' () was an independent English-language newspaper in Yemen. The paper was published twice weekly. History 1990–1999 The ''Yemen Times'' was founded in 1990 by Abdulaziz al-Saqqaf, an economics professor at Sanaa University, along with two assistants. The ''Times'' was among the dozens of newspapers founded in the wake of the reunification of Yemen and the new prospect of a democracy. Saqqaf registered the newspaper with the Ministry of Information and was granted Licence Number 9.
