Rob Hellyer
Rob Hellyer (born June 28, 1992) is a Canadian professional box lacrosse player. He is a forward for the San Diego Seals of the National Lacrosse League. Early life Hellyer was born on June 28, 1992, in Lion's Head, Ontario, Canada. Growing up, he played junior lacrosse for Wiarton and was eventually called up by the Owen Sound North Stars’ organization to play with their Jr. B team. Following this, Hellyer played four years of Jr. A with the Orangeville Northmen, scoring 117 goals and 171 assists for 288 points in 69 games. While with the team, he was named to the league's second all-star team and won the Minto Cup in 2012. After his first year in Orangeville, Hellyer was drafted 30th overall by the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League. Lion's Head, Ontario
Lion's Head is a community in the municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the midway point of the Bruce Peninsula, about halfway between Owen Sound and Tobermory, just east of Ferndale on Bruce Road 9. Lion's Head is located on the 45th parallel north, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. The town is named after the resemblance of a lion's profile in the rock formation of the Niagara Escarpment. The first post office opened in 1895. It is a well travelled holiday spot on the coast of Georgian Bay. Rochester Knighthawks
The Rochester Knighthawks (also known as the K-Hawks) are an American professional box lacrosse team based in Rochester, New York, that competes in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The team plays its home games at Blue Cross Arena. The Knighthawks are owned by Terry Pegula who purchased the intellectual property of the team from former owner Curt Styres. Styres moved the previous version of the team to Halifax, Nova Scotia, as the Halifax Thunderbirds at the end of the 2018–2019 season. As an expansion team they are not a continuation of the previous Knighthawks. All records and championships followed the original franchise to Halifax. Lacrosse is a contact team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. 2020 NLL Season
The 2020 National Lacrosse League season, formally known as the 2019–2020 season, was the 34th in the history of the NLL. The season began on November 29, 2019 and was scheduled to end with the NLL final in late spring of 2020. However due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the season was suspended on March 12, 2020. On April 8, the league made a further public statement announcing the cancellation of the remaining games of the 2020 season and that they would be exploring options for playoffs once it was safe to resume play. This season was the inaugural season for the expansion Knighthawks and Riptide. The former Rochester Knighthawks under owner Curt Styres relocated to Halifax for this season while Pegula Sports and Entertainment took over the Knighthawks moniker with a new expansion team.
