Roaring Jack
Roaring Jack was an Australian Celtic punk/folk punk band of the 1980s and 1990s. The band was nominated for two ARIA Music Awards during their career. The band's singer Alistair Hulett died at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow of liver failure and cancer on 28 January 2010. Rod Gilchrist died in 1998 and Steve Thompson in 2000. History Roaring Jack played all over Australia from 1985 to 1992 and developed a huge cult following. Their debut EP ''Street Celtability'' was recorded and produced at Studios 301 in Sydney in July 1987. First album ''The Cat Among the Pigeons'' was released in November 1988. Celtic Punk
Celtic punk is punk rock mixed with traditional Celtic music. Celtic punk bands often play traditional Celtic folk songs, contemporary/political folk songs, and original compositions.P. Common themes in Celtic punk music include politics, Celtic culture (particularly Gaelic culture) and identity, heritage, religion, drinking and working class pride. Alistair Hulett
Alistair Hulett (15 October 1951 – 28 January 2010) was a Scottish people, Scottish acoustic music, acoustic folk music, folk singer best known as the singer of the folk punk band, Roaring Jack. Early life Born in Glasgow, Hulett discovered traditional music as an early teen and began playing the folk circuit in New Zealand in 1968, after immigrating with his family. By 1971, he relocated to Australia continuing to perform at festivals. In the early 1980s Hulett founded the folk punk five piece, Roaring Jack, and opened for international acts such as Billy Bragg, The Pogues and The Men They Couldn't Hang. Folk punk (known in its early days as rogue folk) is a fusion of folk music and punk rock. It was popularized in the early 1980s by the Pogues in England, and by Violent Femmes in the United States. Folk punk achieved some mainstream success in that decade. In more recent years, its subgenres Celtic punk and Gypsy punk have experienced some commercial success. ''Rock Band'' is a series of rhythm games first released in 2007 and developed by Harmonix. Studios 301 is an Australian recording studio and is both the longest-running professional recording studio in the southern hemisphere and the largest studio complex in Australia.
