Jolfa, Iran (city)
Jolfa () is a city in the Central District of Jolfa County, East Azerbaijan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. Jolfa is separated by the Aras River The Aras is a transboundary river in the Caucasus. Mahabad
Mahabad () is a city in the Central District of Mahabad County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. Etymology Mahabad first became the name of the city after World War I, during the reign of Reza Shah (). Before that, it was known as Savojbolagh, a Persian corruption of the Turkic word ''soghuk bulak'' (meaning "cold spring"). The Kurdish version was Sablagh. Sardasht, West Azerbaijan
Sardasht () is a city in the Central District of Sardasht County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. Sardasht, far from the frontline, was notably attacked with chemical weapons by Iraqi forces under Saddam Hussein during the Iran–Iraq War. It was the first deliberate chemical attack against Iranian civilians. Etymology A popular belief is that Sardasht (or Zardasht) comes from the Kurdish word for Zoroaster.
