Rivne NPP
Rivne Nuclear Power Plant (also called Rovno) is a nuclear plant in Ukraine in Rivne Oblast, which operates the first VVER-440 reactors to be constructed in Ukraine. The Regulatory Committee of Ukraine, during a meeting in Varash, adopted a decision on extending the lifetime of Rivne power units 1 and 2 by 20 years. The power station has four reactors with a nameplate capacity of just over 2500 MWe. In 2018 unit 3, after modernization, received a life-extension license extending its operation by 20 years until 2037. History The plant dates back to 1971, when the design of the West Ukrainian NPP, which was later renamed Rivne NPP, began. Construction of the plant began in 1973. The first two power units with VVER-440 reactors were commissioned in 1980–1981, and the 3rd power unit, the millionth unit, was commissioned in 1986. Varash
Varash (, ), previously known as Kuznetsovsk () from 1977 to 2016, is a city in Rivne Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Varash urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine and Varash Raion, one of the raions of Ukraine. Population: The mayor of Varash is Oleksandr Menzul. History The first written mention of Varash is dated back to 1577. The status of an urban-type settlement was established in 1973 as a company town of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant. The Styr (; ; ) is a right tributary of the Pripyat, with a length of . Its basin area is and located in the historical region of Volhynia. 5th Nuclear Power Plant Protection Battalion (Ukraine)
The 5th Nuclear Power Plant Defense Battalion is a battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine tasked with CBRN defense, specifically of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant, and has seen action against Russian forces during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In its current form, it was established in 1991 and is headquartered at Varash. History The 5th Nuclear Power Plant Protection Battalion was established in 1991 as a part of the Internal Troops of Ukraine to protect and guard the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant.
