Varash
Varash (, ), previously known as Kuznetsovsk () from 1977 to 2016, is a city in Rivne Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Varash urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine and Varash Raion, one of the raions of Ukraine. Population: The mayor of Varash is Oleksandr Menzul. History The first written mention of Varash is dated back to 1577. The status of an urban-type settlement was established in 1973 as a company town of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant. The new town was named in honor of the Soviet intelligence agent and partisan Nikolai Kuznetsov. The plan of the city reflects the ideals of late socialist realism. Part of the city occupies the site of the former village of Varash, founded in 1776. Now it is one of the districts in the city. On 19 May 2016, Verkhovna Rada adopted a decision to rename Kuznetsovsk to Varash and conform to the law prohibiting names of Communist origin. Rivne Nuclear Power Plant
Rivne Nuclear Power Plant (also called Rovno) is a nuclear plant in Ukraine in Rivne Oblast, which operates the first VVER-440 reactors to be constructed in Ukraine. The Regulatory Committee of Ukraine, during a meeting in Varash, adopted a decision on extending the lifetime of Rivne power units 1 and 2 by 20 years. The power station has four reactors with a nameplate capacity of just over 2500 MWe. In 2018 unit 3, after modernization, received a life-extension license extending its operation by 20 years until 2037. Styr River
The Styr (; ; ) is a right tributary of the Pripyat, with a length of . Its basin area is and located in the historical region of Volhynia. The Styr begins near Brody, Lviv Oblast, then flows into Rivne Oblast, Volyn Oblast, then into Brest Region of Belarus where it finally flows into the Pripyat. Nikolai Ivanovich Kuznetsov
Nikolai Ivanovich Kuznetsov (; 27 July 1911 – 9 March 1944) was a Soviet intelligence agent and partisan who operated in Nazi-occupied Ukraine (Reichskommissariat Ukraine) during World War II and who personally killed six high-ranking German officials. His file is still not fully disclosed and will be held until 2025 in the FSB archives. It was not until 1990 that Kuznetsov was officially recognized as a NKVD agent.
