DeRidder is a city in, and the parish seat of, Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, United States. A small portion of the city extends into Vernon Parish, Louisiana, Vernon Parish. As of the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census DeRidder had a population of 10,578. Herman Ridder (March 5, 1851 – November 1, 1915) was an American newspaper publisher and editor. Biography Ridder was born in New York City, of German Catholic parents. Robert Blair Ridder (July 21, 1919 – June 24, 2000) was an American ice hockey administrator, media businessman, and philanthropist. He was the founding president of the Minnesota Amateur Hockey Association, and managed the United States men's national ice hockey team at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics. He was a director in the Knight Ridder media company which controlled several television and radio stations, and newspapers in Minnesota. His wealth allowed him to be a founding owner of the Minnesota North Stars and helped him provide funding for the construction of Ridder Arena at the University of Minnesota. For his work in hockey in the United States, he received the Lester Patrick Trophy, and was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame and the IIHF Hall of Fame. Peter Hollander Ridder (1608–1692) was a Swedish naval officer who was the 2nd governor of New Sweden, the Swedish colony in North America, from 1640 until 1643. Early life Peter Hollander Ridder's father was a Dutchman living in Ekenäs, Finland. Ridder later entered the Swedish Navy where he was promoted to lieutenant in 1637. On 1 July 1639 he was appointed commander of Fort Christina in New Sweden and left Gothenburg on the ship Kalmar Nyckel in September 1639. The voyage went via Amsterdam and Ridder arrived (along with among second Reorus Torkillus) to the colony in April 1640. Kathleen Culman Ridder (October 2, 1922 – April 3, 2017) was an American philanthropist, educator, writer, and feminist. She graduated from University of Minnesota Duluth as a teacher, advocated for women's athletic programs at the University of Minnesota, and was a benefactor of Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey. She was active in Republican politics, supported the Equal Rights Amendment, and later turned to writing and philanthropy to help her causes.
