Ricky Elliott (born October 9. 1965) is a retired American Kart, Dirt Modified, and Late Model racing driver. Elliott has 245 feature events wins from 15 tracks in the Mid-Atlantic (United States). Racing career Ricky Elliott began racing karts at an early age, winning 135 World Karting Association events, including both Maryland and Delaware state championships and the national Horstman Gold Cup. He then began racing modifieds and in 1987 claimed his first feature win at the Delaware International Speedway (DIS). Elliott won often in his home state, including the state fairgrounds, and claimed back to back track championships at both DIS and Georgetown Speedway in 1990 and 1991, repeating at Georgetown in 1993 and 1994 He also competed regularly at New Jersey's East Windsor and Bridgeport Speedways, and found success at major events held at North Carolina's Charlotte Motor Speedway dirt track and the Syracuse Mile in New York. Late Model
Late Model stock car racing, also known as late model racing and late models, refers to a type of auto racing that involves purpose-built cars simultaneously racing against each other primarily on oval tracks. This type of racing was early-on characterized by its participants' modification to the engines of post-World War II passenger cars, but the modern day understanding references a class that allows considerable modifications to both the engine and body, yet requires some form of front fender package. Overview As the post WWII auto industry began meeting demand for new cars, auto lots were filling up with the pre-war coupes and sedans. These 1939-1941 cars, "modified" with souped up engines, were finding their way to competitions at racing ovals converted from horse racing or newly carved out in fields. Charlotte Motor Speedway
Charlotte Motor Speedway (known as Lowe's Motor Speedway from 1999 to 2009 due to sponsorship reasons) is a quad-oval Oval track racing#Intermediate, intermediate speedway in Concord, North Carolina. It has hosted various major races since its inaugural season of racing in 1960, including NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA SportsCar Championship races. The ''Cumberland Times-News'' is a five-day morning daily newspaper serving Cumberland, Maryland, United States, and the surrounding areas of Allegany and Garrett counties in Maryland, and Mineral County in West Virginia. The paper, which has existed under various titles, dates back to the early 19th century. In addition to its Cumberland headquarters, the newspaper maintained satellite bureaus in Frostburg and McHenry, Maryland, and in Keyser, West Virginia. Brewerton Speedway
Brewerton Speedway is a 1/3rd mile D-shaped dirt oval raceway in Brewerton, New York. It is considered one of the oldest jewels of the robust Central New York racing scene. History The Brewerton Speedway was built as a ¼ mile clay racetrack in 1949 by Vere Bradbury and Don Georgia, who sold it to Al Richardson. The first event was a dirt track midget car race. The track was paved in 1956, and the current 1/3 mile dirt oval opened in 1973. Richardson remained owner until 1965, after which the racetrack went through a series of owners and promoters, as well as several years of inactivity. In 1994, Harvey, Joan, and David Fink purchased the track. Since 2009, the track, along with the Fulton Speedway, has been owned by John and Laura Wight. The World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series is a late model, Dirt Super Late Model touring series currently owned and sanctioned by the World Racing Group. New Egypt Speedway
New Egypt Speedway is a 7/16 mile clay race track in New Egypt, New Jersey. The track hosted the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on a quarter mile asphalt track in the 1980s. History The track was built in 1946 as a 1/4 mile dirt track, before being converted to a paved race track during the 1960s, through the early 1990s when the track was abandoned. The speedway was about to be torn down until the Grosso family purchased it in 1997. Until this point the speedway had steadily deteriorated from bad to worse. Originally pavement, the new NES brought dirt track racing back to Ocean County, New Jersey. Potomac Speedway
Potomac Speedway is a 3/8 mile clay oval raceway located in Budds Creek, Maryland, near Charlotte Hall. The raceway was first raced on in 1973. Races are typically held on Friday or Saturday nights. Regular events include Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hobby Stocks and 4 cylinders. The speedway also holds events for Modifieds, Crate Late Models, Strictly Stocks and Hornets. Potomac Speedway has a seating capacity of about 4,000 in the main grandstands and can hold an additional 1,000 in the pit area. Syracuse Mile
The Syracuse Mile was a dirt oval raceway located at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York. Originally built for harness racing in 1826, the first auto race was run in 1903, making it the second-oldest auto racing facility in United States history. The racetrack was also nicknamed "The Moody Mile" after driver Wes Moody turned a 100-mile-per-hour lap in 1970. The track and grandstands were torn down in 2016 by state government officials with the plan to modernize facilities. Harness racing The Syracuse Mile hosted harness racing from its opening until 2005. The Hambletonian Stakes were held from 1926 through 1929.
