Richard Webber (professor)
Professor Richard James Webber (born September 1947) is the inventor of the geodemographic classifications systems Acorn and Mosaic. He has been a visiting professor at University College London, King's College London, and Newcastle University. In 2014 he founded Webber Phillips with Trevor Phillips. He is a fellow of the Market Research Society and the Institute of Direct Marketing. Geodemographic Classifications System
In marketing, geodemographic segmentation is a multivariate statistical classification technique for discovering whether the individuals of a population fall into different groups by making quantitative comparisons of multiple characteristics with the assumption that the differences within any group should be less than the differences between groups. Principles Geodemographic segmentation is based on two simple principles: *People who live in the same neighborhood are more likely to have similar characteristics than are two people chosen at random. *Neighborhoods can be categorized in terms of the characteristics of the population which they contain. Mosaic (demographics)
Mosaic is Experian’s system for geodemographic classification of households. It applies the principles of geodemography to consumer household and individual data collated from a number of government and commercial sources. The statistical development of the system was led by professor Richard Webber in association with Experian in the 1980s and it has been regularly refreshed and reclassified since then, each based on more recent data from national censuses and other sources. Since its initial development in the UK, the Mosaic brand name has also been used to market separate products which classify other national consumers including most of Western Europe, USA, selected Asian regions and Australia. The initial UK version was based at the postcode level, which would cover an average of 20 properties with the same code. Trevor Phillips
Sir Mark Trevor Phillips (born 31 December 1953) is a British writer, broadcaster and former politician who served as Chair of the London Assembly from 2000 to 2001 and from 2002 to 2003. He presented ''Trevor Phillips on Sunday'', a Sunday morning talk show on Sky News, from 2021 to 2022. Phillips was appointed head of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) by Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2003 and was the chairman of its successor, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), from 2007 to 2012. He has been a television presenter and executive. After retirement, he continued to chair numerous corporate and social boards. Public Health England
Public Health England (PHE) was an executive agency of the Department of Health and Social Care in England which began operating on 1 April 2013 to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. Its formation came as a result of the reorganisation of the National Health Service (NHS) in England outlined in the Health and Social Care Act 2012. National statistics History and debate The 1991 UK census was the first to include a question on ethnicity. Field trials had started in 1975 to establish whether a question could be devised that was acceptable to the public and would provide information on race or ethnicity that would be more reliable than questions about an individual's parents' birthplaces. A number of different questions and answer classifications were suggested and tested, culminating in the April 1989 census test.
