Richard Stannard (triathlete)
Richard Stannard (born April 1974) is a triathlete from Great Britain and four time Biathle world champion. He is nicknamed "The Fish" due to the strength of his swimming, and is the current British Masters record holder in the 200m free, 400m free, 800m free and 1500m free categories. He was British triathlon champion in 2001, aquathlon world champion in 2003, 2006 and 2011 and biathle world champion in 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2012. He also led the swim leg of the London Triathlon for ten years in row from 1997–2006. He was also first out of the water at the 2012 London Triathlon, beating an elite field of international athletes some 10–15 years younger than him. Aquathlon
An aquathlon is a multisport race consisting of continuous run and swim elements. Competitors complete a swim immediately followed by a run over various distances. Athletes compete for fastest overall course completion, including the time transitioning between the disciplines. Aquathlon is one of a family of endurance based multisport races, which gained popularity from triathlon and various independent races in the second half of the twentieth century. Modern aquathlon is viewed as a discipline of triathlon as standard races cover the same distances as triathlon but without the cycling leg. As such the sport is governed by International Triathlon Union who organise the world championships each year. ITU Aquathlon World Championships
The World Triathlon Aquathlon Championships is a aquathlon championship competition organised by World Triathlon. The competition has been held annually since 1998. The championships is a continually timed race containing a swim stage and either one or two run stages. Typically, the race consists of run—swim—run segments. When the water is less 22 degrees Celsius, a wetsuit is required and the race starts with the swim stage, followed by a single run stage, so that participants do not have to put on a wetsuit mid race. The total run distance is around 5 km and the swim is between 750m and 1 km. However the distances have varied during the event's history depending on local circumstances. Biathle
Biathle is a sub-sport of modern pentathlon consisting of running and freestyle swimming. The legs are raced with continuous transitions like a triathlon. It is a sport in its own right and bears close resemblance to aquathlon which also contains swimming and running but comes from triathlon. The race length is usually 200 m swim and 3 km run, which is shorter than aquathlon usually is. Sport Biathle is a world class sport but not an Olympic one.
