2018 Horizon Air Q400 Incident
On August 10, 2018, a Horizon Air De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 was stolen from Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (Sea–Tac) by 28-year-old Richard Russell, a Horizon Air ground service agent with no piloting experience. After Russell performed an unauthorized takeoff, two McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle fighters were scrambled to intercept the aircraft. Sea–Tac air traffic control made radio contact with Russell, the sole occupant, who described himself as "just a white guy," and "broken guy, got a few screws loose, I guess." About 1 hour and 15 minutes after takeoff, Russell successfully executed a barrel roll before he crashed the aircraft on sparsely populated Ketron Island in Puget Sound, killing only himself. Richard Russell (born 18 March 1971) is an English record producer and the owner of British record label XL Recordings. Career XL Recordings was founded in 1989 by Tim Palmer and Nick Halkes to release dance music. Richard Russell joined XL as an A & R scout in 1991. In 1992, Russell released a single titled " The Bouncer" as part of a duo named Kicks Like a Mule. ''The Guardian'' described the song as rave music that was "knocked into shape in about five hours" which "crossed over from pirate radio to reach number seven in the charts." Russell appeared on ''Top of the Pops'' and was initially signed to London Records for an album but was dropped from London before its completion. Richard Lion Russell (July 22, 1924 – November 21, 2015) was an American writer on finance. Early life and family Russell was born in New York, the son of Hortense (née Lion) Russell, a novelist, and Henry Harold Russell, a civil engineer. His family was Jewish. Russell was educated at Rutgers and received his BA at NYU. He flew as a combat bombardier on B-25 Mitchell bombers with the 12th Air Force during World War II. Richard Joel Russell (16 November 1895 – 17 September 1971) was an American professor of physical geography and geology at the Louisiana State University who contributed to pioneering studies of long-term climatology and geomorphology. Russell was born in Hayward, California to Nellie Potter Morril and lawyer Frederick James. His early education was in Honololu where he went to the Punahou Kindergarten. The family moved back to California and studied at the Hayward High School before going to the University of California, Berkeley where he began to study forestry in 1915 after becoming interested on a hunting trip in Santa Lucia. Richard Russell (26 November 1687 – 1759)was an 18th-century British physician who encouraged his patients to use a form of water therapy that involved the submersion or bathing in, and drinking of, seawater. The contemporary equivalent of this is thalassotherapy, although the practice of drinking seawater has largely discontinued. Early life Richard Russell was the son of Nathaniel Russell, a surgeon of Lewes, in Sussex, who at one time owned Ranscomb Manor, in South Malling, near Lewes. Richard Russell (8 September 1945 – 15 January 2025) was a Jamaican professional tennis player. Life and career Russell was the only Jamaican to progress past the first round at all four grand slam tournaments. At the 1966 Australian Championships he won his first round match over Richie Chopra, 6–0, 6–0, 6–0. In July 1965 he won the singles title at the All-Jamaica Tennis Championships for the second time. Russell won the 1966 Kingston International Championships at Kingston, Jamaica defeating Arthur Ashe in the final in three sets. This was an annual tournament on the international ILTF Caribbean Circuit and Russell would be the only Jamaican to win the event. The same season he was a finalist at the Budleigh Salterton Open played on grass in England where he lost to Brian Fairlie. Richard Brevard Russell Jr. (November 2, 1897 – January 21, 1971) was an American politician. A Southern Democrat, he served as the 66th Governor of Georgia from 1931 to 1933 before serving in the United States Senate for almost 40 years, from 1933 to 1971. At his death he was the most senior member of the Senate. He was a leader of Southern opposition to the civil rights movement for decades. Born in Winder, Georgia, Russell established a legal practice in Winder after graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law. He served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1921 to 1931 before becoming Governor of Georgia. Russell won a special election to succeed Senator William J. Richard Lowell Russell (11 May 1922 – 24 January 1974) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Port Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Early years Russell was born in the seaside town of Port Augusta, South Australia. Military service Russell enlisted in the army on 9 July 1942 and was discharged on 7 August 1946.
