Richard Russell (tennis)
Richard Russell (8 September 1945 – 15 January 2025) was a Jamaican professional tennis player. Life and career Russell was the only Jamaican to progress past the first round at all four grand slam tournaments. At the 1966 Australian Championships he won his first round match over Richie Chopra, 6–0, 6–0, 6–0. In July 1965 he won the singles title at the All-Jamaica Tennis Championships for the second time. Russell won the 1966 Kingston International Championships at Kingston, Jamaica defeating Arthur Ashe in the final in three sets. This was an annual tournament on the international ILTF Caribbean Circuit and Russell would be the only Jamaican to win the event. The same season he was a finalist at the Budleigh Salterton Open played on grass in England where he lost to Brian Fairlie. Dennis Ralston
Richard Dennis Ralston (July 27, 1942 – December 6, 2020) was an American professional tennis player whose active career spanned the 1960s and 1970s. As a young player, he was coached by tennis pro Pancho Gonzales. He attended the University of Southern California (USC) and won NCAA championships under its coach George Toley. He and partner Bill Bond captured the NCAA doubles title in 1964. Erik Van Dillen
Erik van Dillen (born February 21, 1951) is an American retired tennis player who played over 25 Grand Slam championships at Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open. He was active from 1964 to 1982 and won 9 careers singles titles. Tennis career Born in San Mateo, California, van Dillen first played tennis aged six years old. During his junior career, he won both the singles and doubles competitions at the "USTA Boys 16 & 18 National Championships" in Kalamazoo, Michigan, as well as winning other national titles in the 12- and 14-year-old divisions. Charlie Pasarell
Charles Manuel Pasarell Jr. (born February 12, 1944) is a Puerto Ricans, Puerto Rican-American former tennis player, tennis administrator and founder of the current Indian Wells Open, Indian Wells tournament. He has also commented for the Tennis Channel and with Arthur Ashe and Sheridan Snyder formed the U.S. National Junior Tennis League, since renamed National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL). He was ten times ranked in the top ten of the U.S. and No. 1 in 1967 and world No. 11 in 1966. Isaías "Iyo" S. Pimentel (16 February 1933 – 26 June 2017) was a Venezuelan international tennis player. He was a quarter finalist in singles at the 1961 Wimbledon Championships. 1966 Davis Cup
The 1966 Davis Cup was the 55th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 32 teams entered the Europe Zone, 8 teams entered the Eastern Zone, and 6 teams entered the America Zone. For this year's competition the Europe Zone was split into two sub-zones. 16 teams competed in each sub-zone, with the winners of both sub-zones progressing to the Inter-Zonal Zone. This meant that 4 teams would now compete in the Inter-Zonal Zone for the right to challenge the defending champions Australia. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is organised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and contested annually between teams from over 150 competing countries, making it the world's largest annual team sporting competition. David Lloyd (tennis)
David Alan Lloyd (born 3 January 1948) is an English former professional tennis player and entrepreneur. He founded the fitness and leisure business David Lloyd Leisure in 1982. He was born in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. He and his younger brother John Lloyd became two of the most successful British tennis players throughout the 1970s and 1980s. David captained the British Davis Cup team and was active in the Lawn Tennis Association. For a short time he was chairman of Hull City A.F.C. and Hull FC.
