Kapuskasing is a town on the Kapuskasing River in the Cochrane District of Northern Ontario, Canada, approximately east of Hearst, Ontario, Hearst. The town was known as MacPherson until 1917, when the name was changed so as not to conflict with another railway stop in Manitoba. Etymology The town of Kapuskasing ''(pronounced ka-pus-KAY-sing'') gets its name from the Kapuskasing River, which was named long before the existence of the town. ''Kapuskasing'' is a word of Cree language, Cree origin meaning "bend in the river". The first reported survey of the district in which Kapuskasing lies was carried out in 1875 by Dr. Robert Bell of the Geological Survey of Canada. Matthew James Hamilton (born February 19, 1989) is an American Curling, curler from McFarland, Wisconsin. He is a World Junior Champion, World Men's bronze medalist, and Olympic gold medalist. Hamilton currently plays second for the Duluth, Minnesota-based John Shuster team. The Keg 2002 Continental Cup of Curling was held at the Agridome in Regina, Saskatchewan November 7–10. It was the very first edition of the event. Michalis Liapis ( el, Μιχάλης Λιάπης; born 8 May 1951) is a former Greek New Democracy politician and minister. Liapis was born in Athens to Konstantinos Liapis, a lawyer, and Antigoni Karamanli (1921–2010). His mother was a younger sister of Konstantinos Karamanlis, who was four times prime minister and twice president of Greece. This means that Liapis is a nephew as well as a first cousin to former prime ministers, the latter being Kostas Karamanlis. J. Ragnar Kamp (born April 9, 1953) is a Swedish-American curler and World Champion. He won a gold medal at the 1977 World Curling Championships for Sweden. After winning the Worlds, Kamp threatened to move to Canada, complaining of Sweden's 'high taxes' and 'negative outlook'. After the 1980 World Championships, Kamp did move to Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, and won two provincial championships, in 1984 and in 1989.
