Ricardo Kirk
Ricardo Kirk (1874 – 1 March 1915) was the first Brazilian Army Aviator. Kirk was born in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. In 1891 he entered the Military Academy and he was promoted to ensign in November 1893 and to first-lieutenant in March 1898 and posthumously to captain in 1915. He is considered the Brazilian Army Aviation Patron. History Kirk was the first Brazilian Army officer to learn how to pilot airplanes. He graduated from École d’Aviation d’Étampes (France) on 22 October 1912. When he returned to Brazil, he was one of the founders of the Brazilian Airclub, where he was assigned as technical director. Campos Dos Goytacazes
Campos dos Goytacazes () is a municipality located in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, with a population of 471,737 inhabitants. Location Campos dos Goytacazes has an area of 4,032 km2 (1,557 sq mi), which makes it the largest municipality in the state by area, and its elevation is 14 m. Its name comes from the geographical characteristic of the region, very flat with fields (''campos'' in Portuguese) and from the Goytacazes Indians, which inhabited the region. Afonsos Air Force Base
Afonsos Air Force Base – BAAF is a base of the Brazilian Air Force, located in the district of Marechal Hermes, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. History In October 1911 the first aeronautical organization was created in Brazil: the Aeroclube do Brasil (''Flying club of Brazil''). The site chosen for its location was given the name of "Campo dos Afonsos" (''Afonsos' Field'') and an airfield was opened on December 12, 1912. On February 2, 1914, a Military Aviation School was opened at the site. The school was a partnership with the Italian Army, but due to the beginning of hostilities related to World War I, it was short-lived and finally closed on July 18 of the same year. On January 29, 1919, a French Military mission founded a new school of military aviation at Campo dos Afonsos. Because of this school, the Aeroclube do Brasil was forced to leave the location. General Carneiro (Paraná)
General Carneiro is a Brazilian municipality located in the extreme south of the state of Paraná. According to the census carried out by the IBGE in 2010, its population is 13,667 inhabitants. History The historical origins of the municipality of General Carneiro are linked to the discovery of Campos de Palmas. The Poles and Ukrainians caused great development in the region.
