Reuven Arazi
Reuven Arazi (; 11 May 1907 – 19 May 1983) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Mapam and the Alignment between 1965 and 1974. Biography Born in Mezhirichi in the Russian Empire (today in Ukraine), Arazi was educated at a gymnasium in Poland, before studying law in Warsaw, where he was certified as a lawyer. He also graduated from the Judaic Studies Institute in the city. Whilst a student he was amongst the leadership of the Socialist Zionist student movement, and also joined Hashomer Hatzair. Between 1933 and 1939 he worked in the Tarbut school system, but in 1940, following the Soviet invasion of Poland, was exiled to the Urals by the Soviet authorities. He returned to Poland in 1946 and re-established Hashomer Hatzair, becoming its secretary general. He was also involved with the Jewish National Fund, becoming a member of its board of directors. Mezhirichi
Mezhirichi (; ) is a village in western Ukraine, in the Rivne Raion of Rivne Oblast, but was formerly administered within the Korets Raion. It is located west of Korets and east of Rivne. Local government is administered by Velykomezhyritska village council. Names Mezhirichi is also known as , , . Jewish life in Mezhirichi Undoubtedly the most significant event in the Jewish community of Mezhirichi was the arrival there of the Maggid, Rabbi Dov Ber. After the death of the founder of Hasidism, the Baal Shem Tov, in 1761, Rabbi Dov Ber became the next leader of the movement. He moved to Rivne, and later to Mezhrichi, where he remained for the rest of his life. Mezhrichi rapidly became a magnet and place of pilgrimage for the chasidim. The location of Mezhrichi, nearer to Poland and White Russia than the Baal Shem Tov's seat in Medzhybizh, acted as a spur to the fledgling chasidic movement. 1969 Israeli Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Israel on 28 October 1969 to elect members of the seventh Knesset. The ruling Alignment coalition was returned to power with the largest number of seats ever won in an Israeli election (56 out of 120). This was attributed to the government's popularity following the country's victory in the Six-Day War, and that the Alignment had been formed by an alliance of the four most popular left-wing parties, who between them had received 51% of the vote in the previous elections in 1965. Hashomer Hatzair Members
Hashomer (, 'The Watchman') was a Jews, Jewish defense organization in Palestine (region), Palestine founded in April 1909. It was an outgrowth of the Bar-Giora (organization), Bar-Giora group and was disbanded after the founding of the Haganah in 1920. Hashomer was responsible for guarding Jewish settlements in the Yishuv, freeing Jewish communities from dependence upon foreign consulates and Arab watchmen for their security. It was headed by a committee of three: Israel Shochat, Israel Giladi and Mendel Portugali.
