Restless Beings
Restless Beings is a UK-based non-profitable, non-political, international grassroots human rights charity. Premise Restless Beings was founded by Rahima Begum and Mabrur Ahmed on 31 October 2007 and launched on 1 May 2008. It is an international grassroots human rights charity that aims to support marginalised communities that are deprived of media or public attention. Its focus has been to ensure most unheard, marginalised communities, silenced and forgotten communities are brought to the forefront and a global understanding of the problems they are experiencing and the roots of their struggle. The organisation is not affiliated with any political organisation and is run by an in-house team of volunteers made up of students and professionals. Rahima Begum
Rahima Begum ( bn, রহিমা বেগম; born 22 May 1984) is an English human rights activist who is the co-founder of international human rights organisation Restless Beings, and an artist and researcher. Early life Begum attended Plashet School until 2000 and then attended Seven Kings High School. She graduated with an MA in postcolonial history, literature and theory from University College London. Career Begum worked as a researcher, illustrator and freelance artist. In October 2007, she co-founded Restless Beings with academic consultant Mabrur Uddin Ahmed (born 1983). Restless Beings is an international grassroots human rights organisation and registered UK charity that supports marginalised communities across the world. Ala Kachuu
Ala kachuu ( ky, ала качуу) is a form of bride kidnapping still practiced in Kyrgyzstan. The term can apply to a variety of actions, ranging from a consensual elopement to a non-consensual kidnapping, and to what extent it actually happens is controversial. Some sources suggest that currently at least a third of Kyrgyzstan's brides are taken against their will. ''Kyz ala kachuu'' ( ky, кыз ала качуу) means "to take a young woman and run away". The typical non-consensual variety involves the young man abducting a woman either by force or by guile, often accompanied by friends or male relatives. They take her to his family home, where she is kept in a room until the man's female relatives convince her to put on the scarf of a married woman as a sign of acceptance. Reprezent 107.3 FM is a youth-led radio station based in Brixton, South London that reaches young people aged between 18 and 25. History The station has its origin in a one-month Restricted Service Licence focusing on youth issues including gun and knife crime, which was a successful broadcast that enabled them to apply for a community radio licence. Reprezent was awarded a community license in 2010, and from April 2011 has been broadcasting live across London. Playing grime, hip hop, dance music, and alternative music, it champions youth culture. The Independent Media Center, better known as Indymedia, is an open publishing network of activist journalist collectives that report on political and social issues.
