James Relly
James Relly ( – ) was a Welshman, Methodist minister and mentor of John Murray who spread Universalism in the United States. Biography Relly was born at Jeffreyston, Pembrokeshire, Wales. He attended the Pembroke Grammar School, came under the influence of George Whitefield, probably in the latter's first tour of Wales in 1741, and became one of his preachers. His first station was at Rhyddlangwraig near Narbeth; and in 1747 he made a report of a missionary tour to Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire, and Birmingham. He broke, however, with Whitefield on doctrinal grounds - his views on the certainty of salvation being regarded as antinomian - and is known to have been in controversy with John Wesley in 1756. In that year, at Carrickfergus, he delivered, in opposition to Wesley, a 'pointless harangue about hirelings and false prophets'. Relly Raffman
Relly Raffman (1921–1988) was a composer and professor of music at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Early biography Raffman was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, September 4, 1921. He entered Dartmouth College in 1939, by which time he had been performing as a jazz pianist for several years. At Dartmouth, he was pianist, arranger, leader, singer, and saxophonist of the Barbary Coast Orchestra. His Dartmouth education was interrupted by four years in the U.S. Navy in World War II, during which he had a distinguished career as a carrier pilot, flying more than 75 missions and receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals. Jazz performance After receiving his Dartmouth B.A. in 1947, he formed the Relly Raffman Trio and was active in the lively jazz scene of the southeastern Massachusetts area. Gavin Relly
Gavin Relly (Born 1926 in Cape Town, Cape Province, Union of South Africa – died 10 January 1999 in Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa) was a South African businessman and former chairman of Anglo American. Early life His grandfather was Sir Walter Stanford, who argued strongly but unsuccessfully for enfranchisement for native peoples regardless of their race or colour at the National Convention of 1909, which led to the creation of the Union of South Africa under the terms of the South Africa Act 1909. Relly was educated at Diocesan College and Trinity College, Oxford before serving in Italy during the Second World War. He then worked for Sir de Villiers Graaff, leader of the United Party. He joined Anglo American in 1949 and became the private secretary of Harry Oppenheimer and later of Ernest Oppenheimer. He would later develop the company's gold mines in the Free State and oversaw the creation of Highveld Steel and Vanadium. He became chairman of Anglo American in 1983. ...

John Relly Beard
John Relly Beard (4 August 1800 – 22 November 1876) was an English Unitarian minister, schoolmaster, university lecturer, and translator who co-founded Unitarian College Manchester and wrote more than thirty books. Life He was born in Portsmouth on 4 August 1800, the first child of a tradesman, John Beard, and his wife Ann Paine. After attending Portsmouth Grammar School and a brief period in a French boarding-school, he joined Manchester College, York in 1820 and studied under Charles Wellbeloved, a pioneering translator of the Old Testament. One of his fellow students there was William Gaskell (whose wife Elizabeth became the famous novelist) and they remained lifelong friends. After his training Beard became a Unitarian minister at Greengate, Salford in 1825. Alongside his ministry, he ran a school which was so successful that he built a house to accommodate it.
