Reform Derby
Reform Derby is a British political party based in Derby, Derbyshire. It was founded in 2020 by a group of five Brexit Party councillors on Derby City Council. Although it serves as the local affiliate of Reform UK, it is a separate entity. Reform UK is a right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. Nigel Farage has been Leader of Reform UK and Richard Tice deputy leader since 2024. It has five members of Parliament (MPs) in the House of Commons and one member of the London Assembly. It also controls twelve local councils. Farage's resumption of the leadership before the 2024 general election led to a sharp increase in support for it and it won the third-largest share of the popular vote, with 14.3 per cent. 2023 Derby City Council Election
The 2023 Derby City Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect all 51 members of Derby City Council in Derbyshire, England. This was on the same day as other local elections across England. New ward boundaries were drawn up for this election, although the number of councillors remained 51. This election also marked a change in the electoral pattern for the city council. Prior to this election a third of the council was elected at a time three years out of every four. From this election onwards the whole council would be elected together every four years. Prior to the election the council was under no overall control, being run by a Conservative minority administration. Whip (politics)
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline (that members of the party vote according to the party platform rather than their constituents, conscience vote, individual conscience or donors) in a legislature. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They work to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being expelled from the party. The term is said to be taken from the "wikt:whipper-in, whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack. The term may more reasonably have been taken from the practice of "keeping discipline" in slaves by cracking a leather whip over their heads.
