Redo Rescue
Redo Rescue, formerly Redo Backup and Recovery, is a free backup and disaster recovery software. It runs from a live CD, a bootable Linux CD image, features a GUI that is a front end to the Partclone command line utility, and is capable of bare-metal backup and recovery of disk partitions. It can use external hard drives and network shares. After a long period of inactivity since 2012, the project has been resumed in 2020 adopting a shorter name: Redo Rescue. Sadly, beginning in Nov 2024, the latest iso version (4.0.0) of Redo Rescue, when burned onto a USB, will not boot if run on a system with Windows and Secure Boot enabled. The issue is a revoked UEFI certificate in the underlying OS used by Redo Rescue. This will require the project developer to rebuild a version with a valid certificate by using an updated version of the underlying OS. The most recent release of Redo Rescue was in Sept 2022. Partclone
Partclone is a partition clone and restore tool. It provides utilities to back up and restore partitions and is designed for higher compatibility of the file system library. It is developed by the NCHC Free Software Labs in Taiwan. It is the default backup application in Clonezilla, FOG (from version 1.00), Redo Rescue and Rescuezilla which is simply a front end to partclone. It supports many file systems and has good performance, as it skips portions of the file system marked as free space. Utilities Partclone currently supports the following filesystems: ext2, ext3, ext4, hfs+, reiserfs, reiser4, btrfs, vmfs(v3, v5), xfs, jfs, ufs, ntfs, fat(12/16/32), and exFAT. Disk cloning is the process of duplicating all data on a Digital Storage, digital storage drive, such as a Hard disk drive, hard disk or Solid-state drive, solid state drive, using hardware or software techniques. Clonezilla is an open-source suite of disk cloning, disk imaging and system deployment utilities. Clonezilla Server Edition uses multicast technologies to deploy a single image file to a group of computers on a local area network. PhotoRec is a free and open-source utility software for data recovery with text-based user interface using data carving techniques, designed to recover lost files from various digital camera memory, hard disk and CD-ROM. It can recover the files with more than 480 file extensions (about 300 file families). It is also possible to add custom file signature to detect less known files.
